I had stopped going to India Palace years ago but decided to go in today. Their food is still really amazing. The reason I had stopped going was because every time I went there some, not all, of the workers are unfriendly and act like they’ve never seen an African American in their restaurant before. I used to think maybe it was just me and I was overthinking, but I got the same exact reception the moment I walked in, after all these years. Even some of the customers did double takes when they saw me. I was so extremely uncomfortable that I barely got any food for my take out buffet as I wanted to leave. There was one lady who was nice but everyone else, my goodness. Disappointing.
Update: Today, 8/1/24, one of my children asked for Indian food because it’s so good. I decided to look at India Palace reviews and was shocked to see another Black person felt the same way that I did! I thought I was overthinking things, years ago and even last week. I feel validated because I HATE playing the race card too, most Black people do. We never want to accuse straight away because it’s a really uncomfortable feeling. I am so sad about this, but at least I now know I’m not the only one. Luckily, there are other Indian places in SA that are much nicer and no...
Read moreThis was for first visit thought have taken few uber orders. being India i know a bit or two abt Indian food. this place deserves Zero stars
We went for their Saturday Buffet, Since i was Vegetarian and Wife and Kid were Nonveg, i took buffet and they ordered la-carte. The buffet is SAD looking display of Indian dishes, with everyone using their already eating hand to server their food with zero care for Hygiene,
The worst thing is their dessert Bar, this was the worst desserts anyone can put in their buffer, some Sad looking sweet made of sooji and Cold Rice pudding seem to be made from leftover rice
My Son ordered for Chicken Biryani-Boneless, first time i saw biryani came much faster than MC-Donald's, it s nothing but big lump of chicken mixed with Fried RICE (YOU CAN CALLED IN AS Tawa pulav)
Still i saw lot of White folks coming in to this restaurant and sees to be happy to eat what they were served
Overall, this is the last time we visit this place and rather buy a frozen things from next door Himalaya Bazaar instead of...
Read moreSince India Place asked about the reasons for my rating, please find the details: I visited on 12/28/2022 for dinner buffet. Chicken curry masala - the garlic was not properly cooked coming in Mouth. Samosa - The filling was tasteless. Hope you had eaten samosas in India. Please compare yours with them. Besides that your samosas were without any green or red chutney. Naan - They were very thick. Hope you had naan in India. Your naan were more like pakistani naan. All the non veg curries were of same taste. No one can distinguish one from another. I can keep on elaborating but I stop now. Your food was of 1 * but since due to being Indian I chose to give you 3 * and gave tip as well. Please choose which part of India's cuisine you want to serve and learn that. Now since you are in USA, then I would recommend few places to visit to have an idea about Indian cuisines. Andhra/Telangana - Kuchipudi, Irving, TX Tamil Nadu - Sarvana Bhavan, Irving, TX. Its pure vegetarian. North India - India Grill,...
