When entering the restaurant it looks clean. I have not been to this restaurant in many years. And today decided to see if it has gotten better. The chips and salsa are really good homemade chips and salsa it warmed. They charge for them even if already lunchtime. I have never been to a Mexican restaurant that charges for chips and salsa unless its still breakfast. The taco salad is good and flavorful. It contains picadillo, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, sour cream and guacamole. Surprisingly they don't charge extra for the guacamole. My friend got the #15 carne guisada w/crispy taco plate. The carne guisada has that chile colorado color which I don't care for I think it makes it taste weird. Surprisingly it doesn't taste bad it was tender and not much fat. I still prefer the carne guisada that has the light brown gravy that taste like the seasonings not that chili flavor. If I wanted that I would get a bowl of chili. The one thing I don't understand is if I am sitting in the restaurant to eat and request a to go box, the restaurant is going to charge for the box in order to take my food home. That is beyond ridiculous! My friend requested a tea they gave it to her in a foam cup. She did not request it, and the restaurant charged her .40 cents for the cup. Again seriously ridiculous! I understand that to some customers .40 cents might not be a big deal. It is the principle of the matter. I ordered 2 tacos to go and a beef fajita w/guacamole cost almost $4. That is crazy. If I would have known that I would have just ordered a plate for a couple more dollars. If customers are already paying for food and leaving a tip. The establishment also wants to charge for all to go containers. They should at least let the patrons know before they just go ahead and put it on the bill. Where they are located, its hard to believe Las Cazuelas charges what they charge. For as much as they pocket you would think they should be able to afford to pave the space they call a parking lot. There are too many really good restaurants on the Southside of town to try because the food is not exceptional its average but not worth all the extra charges. If I never go back to this place I will not miss it. I do not plan to ever set foot in this establishment again. The people that are regulars here haven't been introduced to much better tasting food and also more reasonably priced and no...

I was there for 2 hours with a party of 20 while we celebrated a family birthday. After the police were called, management seemed to not want to deal with my episode as they stood at the front door and stared.
I'm presuming this is a frequent thing for them since they had an incompetent man walking the lot with a reflective vest. Even he didn't want to come speak with my family and stated he thought it was like that when we arrived. I'm guessing the shattered glass gave him no clue.
I visited the restaurant again this afternoon to see if they could assist with my damages while being on their property and the manager said they do not assist with things like that. So apparently they are okay with taking your family's money but not assisting their patrons in return.
As for the service, C-. The waitress, Enriquetta, seemed to care less about our experience even though we were there with a large party. I knew it was going to be a bad experience when I asked for chips n salsa and she said, 'Oh, we charge for those', and walked away. Needless to say, we bought 5 baskets. The food took forever, about an hour, and when it arrived many of the plates were incomplete. Most importantly, the beans were bland and the rice had no flavor.
Don't spend your money at this joint. There are plenty of real family restaurants just...
Read moreThe food is delicious! Best Tex-Mex place in S.A.! My favorite thing about them is that one doesn't need to add any additional seasoning to anything -- it's all flavored perfectly! I've been coming here at least 20 yrs; prior to moving back to San Antonio, Las Cazuelas was the first place I'd hit when coming in to visit.
The changes I've noticed lately is that the prices have definitely gone up. And, there is a charge for everything now: chips & salsa (which were gratuitous before), extra onions, to-go cups, etc. They're also cutting back on the amount of the sides. I ordered mole enchiladas recently & thought that a good portion of my beans were covered by the sauce...uh, no...it was just that the sauce was spread out & there was just a small triangle of beans served. The portions of rice have also grown smaller; it's a shame, because I have to ration out the sides so that there is enough to go with the entrée.
My favorite items are the cheese enchilada plate (I swear I thought they used to serve three enchiladas instead of the current two!), mole enchiladas made with yellow cheese (instead of chicken), the Mexican plate, chicharron tacos served in corn tortillas, barbacoa tacos (which are not dripping in grease, as in other places). You'll have to try everything else, too -- it's...
