I’m going to start out by letting everyone know that this place has only been open for 3 weeks. So many of my issues from this review should be resolved over time, hopefully.
location is beautiful. Patio is gorgeous. Comfortable chairs. The inside is immaculate and very nice. Tastefully decorated and a beautiful place for breakfast, brunch, lunch. Even has a nice changing table in the restroom for babies.
the place is kid friendly. A nice place to go that is welcoming to families with small children.
we were notified when we walked in that they were short staffed and our wait times for drinks and food were going to be long. And they were very honest about that, so although service was slow, we knew ahead of time. Not docking for that at all. When they have their staff all in place, should run smoothly.
everyone was super kind and helpful.
limited menu and the prices definitely reflect the location.
my server was so kind, but she made many mistakes. Again, issues to work out over time. I asked for a cranberry mimosa. Was brought a regular one. When asked about it she didn’t replace it with the correct one. Tasted mostly of orange juice, very little alcohol.
a small bread was brought out for all four to share. More suitable for two people.
I ordered the Papa grande. Got sourdough on the side because I wanted to try that and their tortillas. I also had to ask for salsa for the dish. The Habanero was good. The green and red were lacking flavor. The dish itself was very basic and lacking flavor/seasoning.
friends ordered the hash, eggs Benedict and the Chilaquiles. Everyone had the same thoughts. Underwhelmed for the price.
there was a hair in my food. The server took it back and said she would comp the toast. When I got my check it was still on there. Just had to give lots of reminders to the staff. Please work all this out!
Overall, we had a lovely time on the patio, but we hope they boost the flavor. Will attempt again in a few months to see if things are...
Read moreA summary of this place can be said just like this, “the chefs need to borrow the salt and pepper shakers at the tables”
Because they do, and in general maybe taste their products from time to time I personally had two things when i ate here for brunch. I had the chai latte and short rib tacos both of which were for a lack of better words, edible
The chai latte I feel being the bigger crime, as I expected the rich complex flavors that comes with a chai latte but to my absolute shock there was no chai to be found. And I knew this since the only flavor I could even taste was the cinnamon sprinkled on top of the foam. Outside of that it was almost purely milk. I mean how do you make chai, an incredibly strong and potent flavor just disappear like that! Next is the short rib taco, which like the chai lacked any flavor you would expect to find in a taco. You would expect some form of seasoning or maybe even just salt and pepper. But nope, it tasted like just meat, nothing else, not a lick of salt or pepper to be found. The onions and cilantro given only downgrade it as they are meant to complement the flavors usually found in tacos like that but due to lack of, only seems like an attempt to make them seem like legitimate tacos and not meat slop on a tortilla. The surprising thing is the charros given alongside had a spectacular gusto to it that was nowhere to be found in the taco.
The atmosphere felt dead and full of the smell of what could be only said to be said as “snobbish”. The staff were okay and kind but reminded me of an ex more than anything Like they’re nice but they’re somewhat distant and don’t really want to interact with you. If it wasn’t blatantly obvious I do not plan to return, this place is for those of a palette equivalent to a that of sandalwood. Go anywhere else and it will have much more flavor and atmosphere than this place could...
Read moreMae Dunne has to be the best brunch establishment in San Antonio! Pro tip: try to make reservation 24 hours in advance on weekends. Even without, they’ve usually been able to accommodate our groups within 30 minutes or less.
The interior dining and private party room are warm and earthy, with rustic, vintage inspired design. We love dining al fresco on the patio with an Aperol Spritz or latte, under striped parasols, giving a breezy, Mediterranean aesthetic. The overall impression is a cozy, well-curated space that blends historical elements with modern furnishings and decor.
The food is outstanding, with a variety of fresh, delicious options to choose from, with a wide spectrum of sweet and savory. Specialty cocktails are expertly crafted, and meticulously prepared with high-quality ingredients and careful attention to detail, that perfectly complement the brunch menu.
While everything is amazing , we rave about the crab cake eggs Benedict, short ribs (the entree, tacos, or on eggs Benedict), chilaquiles, Turkish eggs toast, French toast, and tres leches. Drinks are paired well with specialty coffees, teas, and juices, fresh and made to order. For a boozy brunch, the classic carajillo, espresso martini, and Miggy French are spectacular; elevated and refreshing.
This spot is the ultimate destination for homemade brunch delights in town. We keep coming back for the unparalleled friendly service, and delicious food made with care; it stands out as the best brunch spot around. It's a true gem where guests can savor homemade dishes that exude warmth and comfort, making every visit a memorable experience for brunch lovers. Thank you Mae Dunne, we look forward to seeing...
