I checked out the Flying Chancla today, thinking this would be my affordable Mexican restaurant in the area for good food. I bought the tamale plate; tamales, rice, and beans, which also includes lettuce, tomatoes, and guacamole. Flavor was the same as any other Mexican restaurant. NEW MENU PRICES! Disappointed with first visit since I chose the Flying Chancla based on the menu prices from Google review menu pics (all old). The young woman told me prices had gone up when I asked for a paper menu, which also were not the current prices. The pics in old Google reviews show the tamale plate at $7.50. The paper menu handed to me shows the tamale plate at $8.50. The current price for a tamale plate is now $9.50, as you can see on my receipt. They also charge an adjustment of 4% for NOT paying in cash.

Wifey and I were excited to try out this new place. Interior is cute. Service is slow. On a not-so-busy Saturday afternoon, it took 25 minutes for an order. A bit too slow for us. Menu is vast and offers enough to please just about anyone. Typical San Antonio offerings, including north-of-the border fare such as "carne guisada". I opted for the gorditas plate and esposa for the enchiladas verdes. The highlight here is the beans: simple yet delicious. The low is the rice: meh, blandish. The enchiladas and gorditas were fresh and flavorful, but no more so than what you can find at the 84,000 other Mexican restaurants in SA. I'll give them another chance and perhaps to raise their score to 4 stars if the next offering really impresses me.

I met my daughter here for lunch today and we both had the mini tacos (street tacos). The meat was so tender and well flavored; served with delicious borracho beans, grilled onions, cilantro and a grilled jalapeƱo. We were so impressed šŸ˜‹. They also have very good complimentary chips and salsa. The staff are friendly and accommodating too.

I recently had the chance to visit your esteemed establishment during my trip to San Antonio, and I wanted to share my feedback regarding my dining experience.

Firstly, I would like to commend the excellent service provided by the gentleman who served me during my visit. His attention to detail and friendly demeanor truly added value to my overall experience at your restaurant. However, I regret to inform you that the food itself did not live up to my expectations.

Specifically, I tried your breakfast tacos, and I must say I was disappointed. The flavor of the tacos was severely lacking, leaving me with a sense of dissatisfaction. Additionally, I found the tortilla to be thick and chewy, which further impacted the overall texture and enjoyment of the dish.

The most disappointing aspect was the machacado and egg taco. To my surprise, it did not contain machacado as advertised. Instead, it seemed to be filled with barbacoa, but was incorrectly labeled as machacado and egg. This lack of accuracy in the menu description left me extremely dissatisfied with my choice.

As a customer, I believe it is important to provide honest feedback in order to help establishments improve and maintain their standards. I understand that mistakes can happen, and I hope that my feedback will be taken constructively.

I believe that with a few adjustments, your restaurant has the potential to offer exceptional dining experiences consistently. The combination of excellent service and improvements in the quality and accuracy of the food will surely contribute to the success of your establishment.

I appreciate your attention to my feedback and hope that you will consider my comments as an opportunity for growth and improvement. Thank you for your time and I look forward to hearing from you at your earliest...

Let me preface this by saying I come from a food and service background, have patience, and am Mexican.

I would give zero stars if I could. Traveling from west Texas, decided to stop here for breakfast tacos. Ordered 6 breakfast tacos, sat and waited, it was moderately busy. Thirty minutes pass and the cashier asks me to confirm that an order was mine. I told her it was not. She asks me "what was your order?" I was not given a receipt, so I just replied back with the order I had remembered.

She then gets a call from a customer who had another pick up order, who had picked up my order, and verbatim the cashier says "oh, well I read the order back to you and I had confirmed it. So I think there was a misunderstanding on your part. I have the correct order here if you want to come and get it." Not a single apology was offered, or any customer service at all.

When I asked for a refund, the cashier had no way of looking it up on their system. I had to remember the exact amount, which is idiotic to me since there is a record for every transaction, time and date in every POS...

This place is horrible and has gone downhill fast. I went there recently and ordered 5 plates and 6 tacos for takeaway. And they only gave me three little salsas. When I asked for more the lady at the checkout said it would be 25 cents each extra. I told her I have been there 10-12 times and have never been charged for extra salsa. She would not give me more so I asked to speak to the owners. So she directed me towards the kitchen to them. I asked the owners how they could possibly think 3 salsas would be enough for all the food I ordered but was again told extra salsa would be 25 cents each. So their new strategy is to give you very little salsa and then try to extract more money from you when you ask for more. I cannot recall any other Mexican place in town that does something so stupid. So this place has lost my business forever. And the food quality has gone down too so no loss for me. My guess (and hope) is that they will not be in business...
