Good ol’ Murf’s, at 2922 West Avenue, in Dellview (where I grew up) right on the cusp on Los Angeles Heights, is the very last Murf’s in San Antonio. It was originally a Whopper-Burger and was also the Whopper-Burger company headquarters (not sure from when to when) - side note, the very first Whopper-Burger is just down the street, at 1418 West Avenue in Los Angeles Heights (and is now the home of “Water Works Plumbing & Irrigation”) - so Whopper-Burger was started by a fella named Ralph Bates in 1954 and by 1966 they had nine locations (and twenty by 1983, the year Bates died), and later on in the mid-‘80s Burger King couldn’t sell their signature burger the “Whopper” here in SA and so they bought the Whopper-Burger name and then they closed ‘em all down - the Whopper-Burger name was officially erased off the face of the planet. But the Bates family kept the old Whopper-Burger on N. St Mary’s and turned it into “Burger Boy” (utilizing the old WB “Burger Boy” mascot) and have been expanding like crazy the last couple of years (and really, replacing Whataburger for a ton of folks here in San Antonio (like me) after they got sold (and the quality and service went downhill - which usually happens when a regional chain goes national, it just loses its special-ness - but this is just my opinion and we all know what that’s worth (zero) while this location became Murf’s, and then there was a second Murf’s at 7102 San Pedro in the Shearer Hills-Ridgeview, neighborhood, which was recently demolished and is now a car wash. I don’t know if Murf’s was ever associated with Whopper-Burger like Burger Boy is - does anyone here know the story about who “Murf” is? - but what I DO know is that Murf’s makes a mighty tasty burger (that’s basically the same burger as Burger Boy and I love Burger Boy) and that every Thursday night from 5:00-11:00 is “Half Price Burger Nite!” 3 Cheers 4 Murf’s Better-Burger = (finally some) Truth in Advertising!

## Murph's Better Burger on West: A Nostalgic Bite of Burger Bliss Murph's Better Burger on West is a throwback experience, a delightful time warp to the 70s with its simple, no-frills decor and classic TV shows providing the backdrop. But don't let the vintage aesthetic fool you – this place serves up some seriously good burgers. The **Double Murph** is a testament to classic burger crafting. The homemade style patty, boasting double the meat and cheese, satisfies any burger craving. The meat is cooked to perfection with a juicy snap, and the combination of mustard and onions is a winning complement. The **crinkle cut fries** are equally impressive, arriving hot and crispy, offering the ideal accompaniment to the juicy burger. The service here is top-notch as well. The staff are **attentive and friendly**, adding to the overall positive experience. **Overall, Murph's Better Burger on West is a gem for burger lovers seeking a nostalgic and delicious experience. The burgers are cooked to perfection, the fries are crispy, and the friendly staff create a welcoming atmosphere. If you're looking for a simple, satisfying meal with a touch of vintage charm, look no further.**

Stoped by today in the drive-through with Family, food there was good before that is why we had continued to go back not anymore. The lady in the front is rude. I don’t know if it’s because she was distracted with the child that they had that is probably to be no older than three years old, I’m assuming that’s why she got our order wrong twice and then got mad about it. I asked the guy to take our order supposed to be we can Have plenty of ketchup and napkins he stated sorry I could only give you what I can of course that’s after we paid otherwise I would’ve gone elsewhere on top of that, we get home to this every double that we had got from the three had a regular size meat and a smaller meat pictures in the bottom definitely will not return again. I hardly ever do reviews, but I made it today.

I have to express my deep disappointment with Murfs after my recent visit. We stopped in for lunch on December 4, 2024, around noon, eager to enjoy a meal I used to love. I ordered a triple cheeseburger combo, anticipating the hearty meal they once served.

When my food arrived, I was taken aback to find that it didn’t resemble my order at all. Upon unwrapping it, I was confronted with what looked like a single patty burger instead of the generous triple I had envisioned. With a mix of confusion and frustration, I approached the cashier to address the issue. She apologized, stating that she had heard “double” instead of “triple,” but even her explanation felt inadequate. The older lady behind the counter mentioned something about a smaller patty hidden beneath the larger one, but it was hard to believe that was what I'd paid for.

I had expected at least two patties of the same size or, at the very least, three equal portions as depicted in their advertisements. The image they use to promote their burgers shows a towering, satisfying meal that piques your appetite, and I felt let down by the reality presented to me.

Murfs used to be a favorite spot of mine – the quality, the taste, and the satisfaction it brought were unmatched. Now, I can’t help but wonder if a change in ownership or management has led to such corners being cut, all in pursuit of greater profit. It feels blatantly misleading to advertise one thing and deliver another, which borders on false advertising. I could understand if it were a discount day, like a Monday or Thursday when burgers are half price, but that was not the case during my visit.

The burger I received was not only disappointing to look at but also left me feeling unsatisfied. While it did taste decent, it lacked the joy that came with their previous offerings, known for being bigger, more satisfying, and genuinely filling. I believe in supporting small businesses, but when faced with misleading practices and a sense of betrayal, it becomes difficult to continue that support.

Regrettably, it seems I will be seeking out Burger Boy from now on. They offer comparable prices, delicious flavors, and a commitment to quality that leaves customers feeling valued, not cheated. At Burger Boy, every patty is the same size and quality, with no shortcuts taken.

So, Murfs, it is with a heavy heart that I say goodbye as a long-time customer. Your recent choices to mislead and disappoint have driven me away, and I cannot align myself with such practices...

If I could do minus stars I definitely would I always try to support local businesses and eat local and today I really wanted a burger so I decided to try Murphs. I saw that there was a line. No big deal went ahead and waited to just get to the point to order the Menu or were you ordered to go look a little old I waited for someone to answer said hello hello no response and I figured maybe you just have to order at the window that’s part of why it takes a little bit longer which is OK again this isn’t a fast food place. I totally understand that while waiting in 30 minutes again not a big deal I get it. This is not a fast food place but my experience there was horrible. I went to the window told them what happened. The lady who was an older lady he said That I would have to go back in line and re-order or wait to just to order and I told her I’ve been waiting here for 30 minutes and it was like she did not believe me and I told her you know she’s like what do you want and I told her I just wanted a double cheeseburger you know just briefly told her what I was expecting she told me that I can order it now, but she didn’t know how long it would take and that there were so many orders ahead of me. She couldn’t tell me how long and I’d have to wait a while. I didn’t wanna argue with her. I said it was OK and ended up going to Whataburger just because I was super hungry and I wasted just about at this .45 minutes just trying to get food ordered. I really wish my experience was different and I could’ve tried the food cause it smelled good just a description on the menu and seeing the reviews with um but unfortunately that didn’t happen and just with the overall experience of service or what happened. I don’t see myself going back, but it’s really sad cause I just wanted to support the local business. I understand he was gonna take some time, but there was no accountability or trying to fix the situation which is also a downfall when you eat At a...
