My girlfriend and I were in San Antonio this past weekend for a mini vacation and I was wanting BBQ so I researched online for places close to Riverwalk and found Reese Bros and it wasnt but maybe a little over a mile away. We Uber'd there but walked back. Not a bad walk at all.
The location is kind of hidden away but we found it now problem. Plenty of seating on the side and in back with two giant screen tv's in back to watch sports or whatever as well as a separate window for drinks and beer including a few locally brewed TX beers.
Anyways, we got there and ordered the brisket sandwich, jalapeno mac and cheese (their own in house creation) , and the queso fundido link house made sausage. It also came with pickles and pickled onions.
I've had a lot of bbq over the years but this was probably some of if not the best I've ever had. The sandwiches were piled high with meet and even the small container of mac and cheese was enough for the both of us and it was delicious, a little, but not too spicey. The fundido on the other hand was pretty hot, at least for me. My girlfriend LOVED it as she is Latina and loves spicey food. The spicier/hotter the better.
Everyone that works there is friendly and extremely helpful. We met Joe Reese, the father of the two sons that opened the restaurant and talked with him for about 20 minutes. Super friendly/nice and explained how the restaurant started out as a food truck and then they built the restaurant. Really enjoyed speaking with him. He then brought out Jorge, I believe he was the executive chef, and he spoke with us for a little bit also and was kind enough to offer us some creme brulee banana pudding (their twist on regular banana pudding ) because I had mentioned it was my gf's birthday and that stuff was awesome!! Thanks Jorge and Joe!!
Lastly as we were about to leave and I was waiting on my gf on a phone call, I walked up and asked about the okra beans. It was one of the Reese Bros but for the life of me I cant remember his name, sorry. He said it was his favorite dish so I told him I was going to check w/ my gf to see if she wanted to try some and before I knew it, he gave me a free sample which again, was another one of their own creations which I believe was their spin on pinto beans but adding poblano peppers and okra (please correct me if I got that wrong) and that stuff was amazing also.
As you can tell, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves here and the food was plentiful and absolutely delicious. We came on a Sunday and were leaving the next morning, otherwise I would have come back and eaten there again before we left. I HIGHLY recommend Reese Bros. when you're in the San Antonio area. Thanks again for...
Read moreFirst and foremost this, place and the menu was very refreshing. The first thing that I notice was, they are prepared for a big crowd. Second thing that I noticed before I even made my order. The customer service is A1. We ordered the brisket taco in the brisket torta with the jalapeño cheese sausage the brisket Taco flavors was delicious. The brisket torta was tasty as well but you have to eat it first and fast because the bread can get soggy on you. Reason why cause that meat juicy it’s so stuffed with flavorful goodness you really have to go in ASAP! San Antonio, Texas barbecue is known for having pickled onions or pickles with onions. The pickle onions heare has a small detail slight twist that I enjoyed a lot. It had herbs on it, which gave it a flavor that none of the barbecue places in San Antonio have. Shot out to these Reese Bros! I’m not a Barbecue savant, but I’ve been to over at least 15 barbecue spots in SA. The sausage was flavorful. The staff there is very attentive down to earth, and the owners are working on site making sure their vision is executed. If you are a investor, you know when the owners are a part of and involved with the company,It has a higher chance for the company to have a success, the barbecue sauce that they give you on the side. awesome, more sweet and tangy, but that’s a preference thing, the salsa has good flavor me personally needed something to make it pop. What I did was is dip my pickle in the salsa and it made it pop. That was just a recommendation. If you like the sauce please leave a good review on how you like it cause all different and brag on it. Me personally I like the fact that there is not lot of tv’s but, thats me ,because it fosters a environment to communicate and enjoy each other.(phones rob personal time as it is ) They have two screens if you concerned about missing a game. Overall this place will grow fast so visit while there are no long...
Read moreFirst - let's make this 4.5 stars
After leaving this place with tummies nice and filled, the kids and myself enjoyed a nice post feast nap on the drive back from San Antonio to Austin.... just sayin' if ya know what I mean.
Brisket - we're a "moist please" brisket kinda family. Juicy, flavorful, not too peppery. These pieces happened to be a tad bit fattier which made it a little too rich the more bites I took. But! You get what you ask for right? Maybe next time I'll order 1 moist and 1 lean.
BBQ Sauce - personally I feel the meat should speak for itself so I generally don't sauce anything. Taste tested - nice, tangy, and not too sweet.
Pork Ribs - good but not my personal favorite. Can't quite pinpoint exactly what it was. I want to say too much flavor? Or could I have already been too riched out from all the other smorgasbord of food we ordered?
Pulled pork - stand alone lacked salt. Perfect once paired with the special pulled pork sauce.
Okra beans - kind of like charro beans with okra. Beans and okra were cooked to perfect texture. I was still left wanting a little deeper flavor. You know, like how chili or stew tastes better the next day after simmering over the stove.
Jalapeno corn bread - I could not stop eating this and I was sooo full. To me, I know when something is good (I mean real good) when I normally wouldn't have ordered it because I thought I wouldn't like it and then - surprise! I don't know if my pictures do this bad mama justice. There's this caramelized (but savory not sweet) top moist layer. I don't normally like sweet corn bread but have to say - this one I did. Jalapeño slice and spice added a nice balanced contrast.
Poblano Mac - a little soft to my liking. I'm more of an al dente kinda gal.
Add in the excellent customer service and...
