I stopped by for an early breakfast. To the credit of the waitress they were very attentive and made sure I was well taken care of. Because of them I’m leaving 3 stars. The food was alright, by no means was it bad but nothing to go out of your way for. I will say it is not traditional Mexican food. As many San Antonio restaurants who promote traditional Mexican, this is definitely Tex-Mex. & there’s nothing wrong with that but it is not “classic Mexican”. While enjoying my breakfast the owner or manager was reprimanding the young lady working the cashier. It was not loud but it was noticeable. It concluded with the young lady walking away in tears. Constructive criticism is part of any job and I’m not sure what the young lady did deserve that conversation, but that should be taking place in front of patrons trying to enjoy their food. I urge management to have those conversations in private. If I was that young lady I would feel humiliated in front of the customers. I also witnessed a customer walk in & wait to be seated. This patron was at the front of the establishment for a solid 5 minutes. No one greeted her or instructed her to sit at her preferred spot. Ultimately the customer ended up leaving. Additionally, the men’s bathroom was backed up and it was a very unpleasant site. I wasn’t able to use the bathroom because of the smell and unsightliness. Realistically this was a 2.5 star experience. Since Google won’t allow for half stars I rounded up to 3 stars, simply because of the wait staff and how I was personally treated. But I cannot ignore the unpleasant sites I saw. Everything is in the details. Basic and subpar food can be elevated with attention to the...
Read moreUpon arrival my husband and I were seated immediately along with another couple who came in right before us. After being seated we ordered drinks within the first 5 minutes from our waiter. Things start to get a little awkward when a man with white hair tied back into a ponytail in a wheelchair, who I assumed knew our waiter personally, keeps yelling at our waiter and being disrespectful to him in front of my husband and I. (This man was seated in a table to the left of us). At this point, my husband and I are already uncomfortable because we have never seen someone get berated the way our server was while working. Then, our server takes our order after coming back with the drinks and everything seems to be okay for the most part. As my husband and I wait for our food, our server is continuously being yelled at by this man. This is enough to make us not want to come back but what solidified our decision was how long it was taking to get our food. I am not sure if there was a mistake in the kitchen, or if our server forgot to put in our order due to having been yelled at throughout our entire time there, but we waited for nearly and hour (55 minutes) and we never got any food. The couple who had come in right before us and was seated at the same time as us had already eaten and left. During that hour, our server only communicated with us twice to say “your food should come out shortly” and “I’ll rush your order out to you.” We decided to leave without any food ever making it to our table. It was a very awkward and disappointing experience. There’s more I could say but to shorten this, we will not...
Read moreSomehow, I never knew about Taco Haven before and did NOT know the area called "Southtown". Friends told me about this place and we decided to go there for breakfast/lunch one Saturday. We had to wait about 10 minutes for a table to be available and it was only my second time in 16 months to eat INSIDE a restaurant. Taco Haven did a nice job of keeping the tables a good distance from each other. I was in San Antonio, so I had to try my all time favorite simple Tex-Mex dish, cheese enchiladas! I was very pleased to see they were made with "red corn tortillas"--sort of a San Antonio tradition and I don't find that in many other places. There's no taste difference with a regular corn tortilla, it is just the traditional red tortilla I recall eating at many restaurants in my youth. The 3 cheese enchiladas were very good and i quickly consumed them along with the rice and refried beans. Also, they were served with freshly-made flour tortillas--which were warm and excellent! My companions had Manchacado con Huevo (Carne seca, dry beef, mixed with eggs, tomatoes and onions; served with beans and potatoes) and the other friend had Puffy Tacos. For me, it's a very difficult decision between the cheese enchiladas and the Puffy Tacos! I was very happy with the enchiladas, but I must go back one day for the awesome looking Puffy Tacos! I loved the bright decor of Taco Haven and the wait staff was excellent, friendly and...
