My expectations of Tarka being a more casual chain spot were blown away from my recent experience because of their service and inclusive menu. I would stick with it for a nice takeout option.
It was pretty quiet when we went considering it was a Saturday evening . Very clean and colorful atmosphere with plenty of tables available.
It's a counter service place, where you can order online, at the kiosk (we liked using this kiosk to look at the helpful pics), or at the cash register. If you order at the register, you can use your points and rewards. I reccommend signing up on their App before you go. You'll get a free appetizer on your first visit and can earn points with every dollar- great redemption system.
Anyway we had never gone before and despite our many many questions, the staff was beyond courteous, patient, and genuinely helpful with their recommendations and information about various menu items. They were all so kind and definitely made our ordering process more streamlined.
The food prices were pretty good in my opinion, under 15 dollars per entree, just be sure to add a few some appetizers like their Naan and samosas. I love how everything is clearly labeled vegan, vegetarian, gluten free, and contains nuts. So inclusive! They even have a nutrition analysis online you can access.
The food came out relatively quickly considering it's made to order and not a standard indian buffet. Good presentation, good taste. Temperature could have been better- everything was a little cold for me.
I ordered the kabob and with the Tikka sauce dressing it tasted great but next time I'll stick with a curry or biryani- what theyre known for. The kabob was healthy but not bursting with rich flavor. My mom and sisters Tikka was great though!
The Naan wasn't too flavorful either, and again very cold. If food can be brought out fresh and hot that would elevate the whole taste too.
Drink selection very good, try their rose lemonade ! They have vegan lassis too!
I got their mango cheesecake to go and it was so rich and creamy! I would reccommend for...
Read moreCame across this gem of a place. It's new, mind you. Entered the establishment with no high expectations - Atmosphere was very chill and relaxing on entry.
Menu isn't big, which is a good sign with the list of what they have to offer, meaning quality is controlled, fresh and comes out in a timely manner.
On to the food. We ordered the Samosa Chaat, visually appealing, aroma enticing but the taste itself was amazing. The freshness of the vegetables and every ingredients in the Samosa Chaat was delectable to very last bite. I'm not a vegetarian, but this appetizer is very delicious and I would definitely order this again and recommend it to anyone vegetarian or not.
Onto the second appetizer we have ordered. The Tikka Masala Fries - In the description in the menu "Perfectly fried." That is, in no way a lie. Right amount of crispness and tenderness in the inside of its crisp potato shell that we all call fries, nailed Perfectly in my honest opinion. The seasoning, their masala seasoning was not over powering, but pairs well with the fries and invites you to indulge more into it with their Tikka sauce that comes with - to add on, we asked for the deli ranch and goes well with! Don't be ashamed and ask for the different sauces that they offer.
Now onto the Entrée [ Coconut Curry - 4 different proteins you can choose. ] We chose chicken for this particular Curry and I'll tell you haawutt. Chicken was tender and not dry, the meat absorbed the flavor of the Curry and stayed consistent with every bite. Curry itself was not very thick or watery. Has very good consistency that you would expect from an Indian curry with the notes of ginger and garlic permeating throughout the sauce in a very good way.
All in all, our dining experience was very well enjoyable and will be repeating customers and also, thank you for establishing a well done Indian restaurant in this...
Read moreGot an order from Tarka Indian Kitchen and this is the second time they did NOT give me rice with me meal on a $30 order. I ordered through Uber eats and didn’t know which of the two locations in San Antonio it came from. The First Lady told me that I didn’t order from there and even if I did the Uber pick up person is supposed to check my order anyway (they are NOT and all business staple or take the order shut for safety precautions and in this case my order was stapled completely shut with the order receipt on the outside!). I had to ask the young lady how could an Uber pick up person check the order if they staple shut all orders and sit it in the pickup section? She then started stammering okay whatever i ended the call because both locations were about to close so I had to find out what’s going on.
I called the other location to see if it was ordered there because I just wanted my ride whether I could just pick it up today or tomorrow because it’s the principal of the matter. The guy told me that I didn’t order it through that location before even admitting he pulled up the tablet where they handle said orders and to just call Uber anyway with the issue (weird because businesses will say chargebacks from order apps hurt their company but I digress as I was trying to be honest and get honesty!) but I’ve never had such an issue and run in with rude people like this. I’m starting to feel that they are scamming and cheating people who order through third party apps, SHADY BUSINESS AND SHADY BUSINESS PRACTICES...
