Updated review 10/12/2022: Fat Wong's has re-opened for indoor dining after 2.5+ years of closure. The owner has retired and the restaurant is now run by his son (looks nothing like him.) My beef brisket lo-mein $14.45 is significantly smaller than before the pandemic. I was still hungry after eating it. I came here because Cafe Orchid is closed on Wednesdays. The menu has been revised. A lot of my old favorites like crispy noodles are no longer available. I'm glad the old owner retired. He doesn't look that old by the way. I hope he enjoys his retirement. He was really thankful for the support when I was the only customer during the lock down. Before the pandemic, this was one of my go-to restaurants for clay pots, rice rolls, porridge w/Chinese donuts, wonton noodles and of course their briskets. Thank you for the 15+ years I've been eating here. The portions now are smaller and it taste different (downhill.) Where's the oyster sauce for my lo-mein? Good luck to the new owner.

Original review: No indoor dining. To-go only. I spoke with the owner and he doesn't plan on opening the dining room. Tonight, I had their shrimp wonton tossed noodles $10.50, braised beef brisket $9.25 and BBQ pork wonton noodle soup $10. The wontons are noticeably smaller than in years pass. They still tasted good. I noticed my BBQ pork wonton noodles only came with two wontons. The braised beef brisket appetizer was fine. They are chewy with a good clean taste. I like how it came with little...

Negative 1 stars. We came out for my God father's birthday. Quick fam story, he passed 2 years ago but as a family we continue his birthday celebrations by heading to the movies and dinner with that family every year.

Disclosure ! Cash only , and the smell is only tolerable for those who are used to Asian markets

Anywho the cooks and servers had the most ridiculous attitude . My bf is allergic to seafood so the lady suggested a chicken soup which we agreed on, we tasted the soup and it had an awful fish taste that we couldn't bare. We called her over and asked if we got the right order and she said "yes chicken noodle soup" we then say "yes but we can't have seafood" she then yells " NO SEAFOOD! FISH!" two times in our face with a confused face . The language barrier was a bit hard so she's looking at us like "how dare you" and we say nvm it's okay thank you.

Then we see the cooks coughing like the plague over all the food they were cooking ! If you can see my face right now typing this. Whew.

Servers gave everyone attitude when all we wanted to do was have some food and laugh with family we never get to see.

Food was EXTRA slimy which was weird and they don't give out water unless you buy their bottled water. My aunt asked well do you have tap water? The lady said no, aunt asked well how do you wash your dishes? And this lady said idk and walked away lol.

I wanted to give fat wongs a try and I just wish they delivered. But...

Me and my group, about 15 of us, went to have lunch. Aside from the very disorganized service they provide, crew doesn’t seem to be friendly. My friend and I ordered their House Special Rice Noodle Soup since it was a good time to have something hot on a cold rainy day. To our surprise, the soup wasn’t that hot and the broth itself tasted like pure stock, unseasoned and totally unflavored. We understand that it could have just been an oversight on the part of the chef. But to serve an unseasoned meal is totally diappointing. We even needed to go to talk to the chef himself and complain but the only thing he did was add a scoop of beef stew broth and told us that that should improve the flavor but it actually didn’t. It made it worse. Imagine adding beef stew broth to a seafood/ fish broth based soup? We repeatedly called the attention of the server assigned to us to complain but what she only did was to bring us salt. We even needed to ask for soy sauce and hoisin sauce just to make it taste acceptable for human consumption. It was a total disaster. I will never go back to this restaurant again....

Um, yeah. They can be old school tasty dishes IF you're willing to lower your expectations and standards a bit (or a lot). I ordered the shrimp won ton with noodles and was expecting it in a hot clear broth but it came on a plate which was very bland (not the crispy kind) and a small bowl of broth. I've never seen it served like this before ever and the shrimp rolled rice and I know I pointed to the photo WITH the long Chinese doughnut and I didn't get one. So, make sure you explicitly ask for the doughnut. Both tasted ok but nothing to go out of your way for. And if you have a Cantonese-speaking friend, it would be highly recommended you invite them along as well. This is one of those places that you just don't send back any dishes if you know what's good for your health because this place isn't going to pass any cleanliness contests either. Be Warned!

Fat Wong's changed owners, the menu offerings have changed. Still a canton congee place. They don't make rice rolls anymore. My favorite was the breadstick wrapped rice roll (jaa lerng). No longer available, big bummer. Their rice plates are just as good as before. Egg and shrimp over rice was good. Their new offering, Hainan chicken rice, was just OK. The rice tasted acceptable. The chicken was closer to white cut chicken than hainan chicken. They have a special for Hainan chicken for $10. As a discount Hainan chicken place, it's still acceptable for the price, but don't come here with high expectations. Basically come expecting a reduced menu offering. Most other things that still exist taste mostly the same.
