This is one of the most laid back bars I've ever been to. It's also one of the few I've walked into and liked what was playing on the jukebox already. What higher praise can there be?
The drink prices are reasonable. I was drinking Kraken and Coke, and later near-triple shots of Sailor Jerry's for about $6. Pool games on their two tables is ¢50 a game. I didn't check on the dart board, but the fact they have one is in their favor. The whole operation is cash only, but the ATM is right there as you come in the door, plus the bartenders have arrows on their shirts pointing out the obvious in case you missed it.
I went on a Saturday when a few other groups of people were hanging out. Everyone seemed in a good mood, people were playing an interesting mix of county, classic rock, funk, and rap that didn't fit with the usual Top 40 or heavy radio rotation picks of the week I normally encounter. I know the bar doesn't really have control of that sort of thing, but it's more an example of how diverse the patrons at Alibi are.
The tables and bathrooms are clean, service at the bar is efficient and friendly, a few TVs play sports highlights, there's an interesting history wall inside, and a chalkboard one outside like in the pic...the bases are covered. I can ask no more of my local...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis is one of San Diegoās last dive bars. Highly recommend. LBGTQIA (I think thatās the terminology, tell me if not) and also ally friendly.
Arrived about afternoon , left 6:30 pm. Yup fun day with the boys. Drank all day for about a hundred 140 bucks thatās with trading rounds with buddies.
Good bartenders, definitely watch your consumption for OIs/over served and monitored the intake, I was ordering off the mid/top shelf. My crew worked/works in the industry and we are pretty responsible- Ubers all around. Bartender made sure of that after 3 drinks. Good job. Exactly how I taught my staff.
Staff is very ālocals barā and know most of their clientele by first name. Super friendly folks, no locals only vibe.
Music was 70s for day drinking!! Perfecto!
Music is TouchTunes IIRC, pretty easy to play what you want. Transition to after work and it get more contemporary.
Big crowd as the night goes on. Vibe becomes more night time about 6ish, very talkative.
All and all, probably the best bar in SD. RIP tivoli and star bar.
No food but I didnāt see a place that was large enough to have a back of the house, there are a couple places next door, might review them later. Either way food was allowed.
Will definitely...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis is a dark place, even during the day. That's not a criticism, just letting you know, it's a BAR!
Two pool tables and the pool is free which is nice. They have a few video games too.
I was there on a Sunday about noon so crowd was small of course but looks like they have dancing at night. There's a DJ booth set up so I'm assuming so.
Bartender was super nice and the patrons we're mostly regulars as far as I could tell. The drinks are serious business here folks. They don't hold back, you get your money's worth in this place!
Just a note:. Cash only though. They have an ATM inside for your convenience though. Keep the overhead down this way which explains the...
