As a 45-year-old business owner, I recently experienced deeply disrespectful treatment at the Verizon store located at 1248 University Ave., San Diego, CA 92103. Upon entering, the first representative addressed me in an unprofessional and condescending manner, referring to me as "buddy." I promptly and politely requested that he not refer to me in such a diminutive way. Instead of offering a simple apology, the representative responded with a dismissive stare, implying that I was in the wrong for asserting my basic dignity.
Subsequently, the same representative walked away without addressing my concerns and passed me off to another colleague, who also failed to acknowledge the issue or take any accountability. The lack of apology, accountability, or even acknowledgment of the disrespectful behavior left me feeling disregarded and devalued as a customer and as an individual.
This incident is indicative of a broader pattern of disrespect and implicit bias that has historically plagued interactions between individuals of different races and backgrounds. The use of diminutive terms like "buddy" can be seen as a subtle form of microaggression, particularly when used in an interaction involving a customer and a representative of a different race or social status. This perpetuates an environment that is unwelcoming and hostile to individuals who do not conform to certain societal norms or expectations.
The failure of the representatives to address and rectify the situation only serves to compound the disrespect and degradation I experienced. As a consumer and a member of the community, I believe it is essential to hold businesses accountable for their treatment of customers and to demand an environment of respect and equality for everyone.
In light of this experience, I am filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau to bring attention to the disrespectful treatment I encountered at the Verizon store. I believe that by shedding light on this issue, we can work towards fostering a more inclusive and respectful environment for all customers, regardless of their background or...
Read moreI hate to leave such a low review bc two of the employees here were great.
But, the whole process with this store was a HEADACHE. I have been here 4 times in the last month. I came in to replace my broken Pixel 1 with a new phone.
I purchased an iPhone (I had to settle for a different color bc the one I requested was not in stock) after I was told that I had 14 days to exchange it for an upgraded Pixel if I did not like the phone.
Taking advantage of this, I came back 2 weeks later to make the exchange back to a Pixel. They had absolutely NO Pixel 3s in stock. They said they would order one for me and it would arrive in 2 days.
After 3 days of waiting, I called the store. They said they hadn't received the phone and that they would call me once it was in. On the 5th day I called again (after not hearing back). The associate said that they had one pixel shipped in and that it MIGHT be mine. Might???
First, the manager laughed at me when I said I was there to exchange an iPhone for a Pixel. The process of exchanging my phone took more than an HOUR. Since I had come in on my lunch break, I had to leave before the process was complete. I was told that I could take my new Pixel 3 with me, but that I would have to come back in to receive the car chargers that needed to be exchanged (from iPhone to pixel) and pay any fees.
I received a call a few hours later saying that the prices matched up so I didn't owe the store any money (even though the pixel is cheaper??? I was expecting a refund from the original taxes I had paid) and that they would hold my car chargers in the back room until I was able to swing by again.
I completely forgot about the charges and a week later I called the store to confirm that they were there before I drove in. The employee answering the phone said that he didn't know and he could not check for me bc he was busy and that I should call back in an hour or two.
HORRIBLE service! The store is 500 sq feet and sells 1 brand of car charges. It would take no time at all to check and see if you have 2 pixel car charges in stock. I will NEVER return to this...
Read morePlease do not go this or any Verizon Authorized Retailer store. We had a great experience with Gaitor when we decided to add a line from another phone service, but it went downhill once he took our old phone as the trade in. We were told to wait a couple weeks for Verizon to receive our trade in, it has been 2 months since Gaitor took our phone and Verizon still has not received the phone. Verizon has been trying to contact the store directly and they keep giving them the run around and tell them there are no supervisors to speak with. When I call myself they inform me Gaitor works at another store and they left my information with him to give me a call back, this was last week a Friday and I was told he will call me this past Monday. I truly believe Gaitor or the staff steal customers phones and lie about sending them off. I want to make it known to everyone to never trust these authorized retail stores. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and they decided to steal our phone. I should have listened to the staff at regular Verizon’s store about it staying about from authorized retailers stores. Just be aware and be careful. It looks like no one at the store will be helping us find our missing phone and they probably gained money by selling it personally...
