For about two months i purchased a burger here every other day. Everything was decent until i tried fixing an order i made through their delivery app. This apparently was unacceptable because it made way for the most unprofessional and unhelpful service ive ever received. I called to clarify my order, as i had an allergy and asked specifically for no mayonnaise, which was put on the sandwich. On both sides. And it seems they mistook the word "none" for extra, because the entire sandwich was drenched in mayonnaise, wetting the bread, and even without my allergy, making it inedible. This was not the end to my experience. As soon as i got on the phone a Latino gentleman answered. Id like to mention i am Latino myself, and speak both English and Spanish fluently. This gentleman's accent was so thick i could not make out a single word he was saying. I would have been fine with English or Spanish but this mans accent was so thick and broken that i could maybe make out a word in every other sentence. And HE had the nerve to get mad at ME!! I was speaking perfectly, trying to stay calm even with my spoiled appetite, at this point i just wanted my money back so i could make my own damn sandwich at home, but started speaking faster and louder, which didn't help, so i hung up and called again, this time to speak with the manager. He was just as clueless and unhelpful as the dishwasher who answered the phone before him, as he had no idea what order i was talking about. As if this werent his JOB. He very procedurally tried to stray from the fact he hadnt even looked at my order and gave every excuse to make it so that i was convinced it was my fault, and my expense. I have managed several kitchens, and i know how food expense works, and at calio burgers, that expense is yours. This was only one of the 4-5 "experiences" i had at calios, including cold food, undercooked ground beef, SPOILED ground beef, and what im pretty sure was fries from the day before I went. You want grass fed organic? Go to Burger lounge. At least they know what...
Read moreMy friends favorite place, but not mine :/ this is a great spot for meat eaters. And while I appreciate their efforts to cater to vegans and vegetarians, they haven't quite nailed it.
Great staff clean restaurant. A great spot for a quick bite to eat. I love their tater tots and sweet potato fries. They have a simple menu that consists of only Burgers salads and sides, which I like. I typically go with their Fresno Burger which is a vegan option. The Patty is made of quinoa and other vegetables instead of the typical white rice. You can get that in place on any of their burger options. This burger comes in right under $10 which is a good deal.
To my surprise and Delight they started offering the beyond meat vegan Patty. This set me back $14! More expensive than any other Burger on the menu not cool. Not only that as you can see in the picture it is nothing like what is advertised. The Patty was so thin you could barely see it. Grant it I opted for the Cabbage wrap instead of bun this meal left much to be desired. The actual Taste of the Patty was incredible I just wish it was a little more substantial as the picture suggested.
I would not pay that much for that burger again. As I said this rating was for stars because it's a great place with a great staff and a good menu.
The O in Calio stands for organic which I think is a nice option. Located in a the heart of Hillcrest it's a great option for a quick Burger.
Don't forget to ask for all of their sauces when you order there...
Read moreSo I normally have three or four restaurants that I grab a burger at between point Loma and Hillcrest tonight on a whim I googled burgers near me and lo and behold look what popped up Cali "O " Burgers. The website is very effective I knew immediately that they served grass-fed and organic and I thought to myself it must be a new restaurant. But no I have driven past it probably 3 or 4 times a week for the past 10 years and never noticed that a) it was a burger place and b) it was an organic and grass-fed burger place! I swear I just saw the colors of the sign and I thought it was Mexican and I always have my preferred Mexican restaurants! And even after I read the sign it took me a second reading to notice the lettering below the sign mentioning organic and grass-fed. So I'm upset because I could have been eating delicious burgers for a long time now quite close to home oh and the salad was quite tasty as well. A different sign on the building would do wonders in terms of driving customers I bet. Most people that pass by there in the vehicles will only glance and have about one second to determine what they're looking at. Also a pop-up sign on the sidewalk with grass-fed and organic would drive the point home. I do recommend it highly also get the ciabatta bun the burgers are so juicy that they need that firm crust on the outside to contain the...
