First let me say , both husband and I work for the city of Imperial Beach. Myself as a Specialist for Southbay Union School District and my Husband works for the city in keeping it clean. The service given to us was HORRIBLE.
So we wanted Sushi, but our main go to Miejo Sushi was closed. We are regulars there because we have never been dismissed by the front of the house or the back. We also tip well.
But for some reason this restaurant FORGOT ABOUT TREATING EVERYONE KIND. We waited 30min for spicy edimami , Hot Roll and Happy Roll. Chips and Salsa ; spicy salsa. Beer bottle and margarita on the rocks.
Our food was just slid on the table as to say “ Here” with an attitude.
The front of the house ladies ( plus size lady and younger lady with glasses just stared at us while eating; NO ONE EVER CAME BACK TO CHECK ON US
never offered ice water when I noticed everyone in the establishment had ice cold water with thier food and drinks.
the young girl with glasses started sweeping with her old broom and dustpan WHILE PEOPLE ( US) were eating . She did get the picture we stopped eating to look at her, she kept sweeping until I actually said “No, not ok please not while we are eating”, while fanning dust particles away. THATS RUDE.
this is what pissed me all the way off. We were done waiting for someone to return to check on us, no one ever did as in watching all the other tables with Spanish speaking customers get constant help but we never received help. I waited 15min looking at customer, raising my hand to get thier attention. The men servers ignored me, the front of the house ladies made eye contact but never came to check id I needed anything. The back of the house was watching me watch everyone and saw I was getting irritated. I stood up and asked for my tab. Husband was upset, he walked out. Finally someone came to her our 100 dollar bill. The snobby stank attitude waitress walked all around me until I spoke out Firmly “ Where is my change from my 100 dollar bill?” Again she came up to me with the worst service and attitude as if she was owed 37 bucks tip. HELLS NAW LADY. I took my money , left the food I packed up and walked out shaking my head.
IF YOU HAVE A RESTAURANT IN AMERICA, THE COLOR GREEN STILL MATTERS , JUST LIKE KINDNESS. As a teacher of mostly Hispanic/spanish/latino kids; THE ADULTS SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES how they treated two African Americans of the community. I’m writing to the papers.
This mistreatment must stop and I’m making sure the CORPORATE OFFICE HERES ABOIT THIS HORRIBLE SERVICE GIVEN. We were really excited to try your restaurant. In spreading the word of the mistreatment that falls under...
Read moreBaja Oyster & Sushi Bar may take the crown when comes to their assorted delicious shrimp and seafood burritos next to Rosarito, Mexico, BUT, I must say, my family, friends, and coworkers have all agreed that their servers need to step it up a notch or two. My experience with most have been average and ranked low on attentiveness. If you’re not a large group of 4 or more, expect average to below standard service. Rarely do the servers exceed my expectation, so I don’t get bothered or get upset anymore. I come to this restaurant because I like their seafood, sushi, and the atmosphere. I’ve been coming to Baja Oyster since 2009.
So back to service…. I recall a male server name Jose - best server ever at this restaurant. Where has he been?! Jose was pleasant, friendly, he followed up, he asked how our meal and drinks were, he appeared caring, he multi-tasked, and he went through the motion like a top server does. Most importantly, he was consistent with all customers. Busy day or not, Jose always served with a smile.
Upon entry, there was always a greeter and rarely did we wait for a table that seated 2-4 persons.
Overall, Baja Oyster has my thumbs up. I can’t think of any dish on the menu that’s not good. I’m a creature of habit, so I stick to my shrimp and seafood burrito mix, shrimp ceviche and campenchana mix. Others that I have dined with, loved their sushi rolls and agua chile dish, this is just to name a few.

Read moreToday had lunch at a nice looking sushi and oyster bar located in imperial Beach. Upon entering the establishment of Baja oyster and sushi bar I was created with a clean well decorated atmosphere with tiki and beach elements. I immediately took a seat at the bar and was treated by the friendly and cheerful staff. Upon sitting at the bar my order was promptly taken for my drink and chips and salsa brought out in an almost head turning speed to the service. I then was offered some of the still piping hot seafood broth with lime from the staff behind the bar who was cutting vibrant vegitables. The broth it's it's self was amazing and could hear up anyone on a cold day or chilly morning. Soon after this I was still flipping through the dauntingly large menu and ordered a spicy hot roll. This roll was filled with spicy crab jalapeno and tempura and deep-fried. The taste of the roll was sweeter than I expected but also included a nice heat that complimented each other nicely. Around this time I inquired if the bar sells octopus while I was told they do not have blackened or seared octopus they had some wonderful octopus tacos. I proceeded to order one for a taste test and the octopus was firm but not rubberized cooked to perfection a task many of Baja's competitors fail at. I hope you will give this sushi and oyster bar a try I will certainly be returning for lunch again tomorrow to try more...
