Good morning, afternoon, or evening, whenever you’re reading this. My name is Jay, and I’m a huge fan of breakfast food. I decided to check out Eggies in North Park (2726 University Ave, Suite A, San Diego, CA 92104). However, there was a sign saying customers could order next door at Breakfast Republic (2730 University Ave), which wasn’t an issue just a short walk away.
Upon arriving, I waited about 15 minutes to place my order, which is understandable given that it was breakfast rush hour. I ordered the "Eggies Classic," a simple sandwich, and the staff member said it would take about ten minutes. Now, having worked in the restaurant industry for six years, including as a general manager, I completely understand how chaotic rushes can get. When she told me ten minutes, I already anticipated it might be longer totally fine by me.
But then, I waited...and waited...and waited. Over an hour went by, and I still hadn’t received my sandwich. Meanwhile, customers who arrived after me were picking up orders, eating, chatting, and leaving. No one acknowledged me or noticed how long I had been sitting there. I’m usually not one to complain, so writing this review is really out of character for me. I wasn’t angry or loud, but the service was shockingly poor.
After an hour of patiently waiting, I finally approached the counter. One of the workers asked if I was waiting for an order. I explained calmly that I had been there for quite some time. He looked puzzled, went to the back, and then two more employees asked for the name on my order. I told them it was “Jay,” and at this point, I could feel my frustration rising. I sat back down, hoping they’d quickly resolve the issue. Finally, the woman who initially took my order handed me my "Eggies Classic" sandwich no apology, no acknowledgment of the wait, nothing.
I don’t know why the actual Eggies building wasn’t in operation that day, so I won’t fully blame them. However, the service I experienced was at Breakfast Republic. No one noticed I was sitting there for over an hour until I stood up and spoke up, which is unacceptable. Having been in the industry, I know I would have noticed a customer sitting there within 15 minutes, minimum! This was a clear sign of poor training and lack of attention to customer service.
I hope this review reaches the management at Eggies and Breakfast Republic. I understand that losing one customer might not seem like a big deal when you have thousands, but this kind of feedback is necessary for improvement. Despite the sandwich being delicious, my overall experience was disappointing, and I won’t be returning.
Thank you for taking the time to read my review, and I hope it helps make some positive changes. Have...
Read moreI'm so disappointed in my visit today. I'm still sitting at my table as I write this. I came in for a late working lunch, and there was no wait, which was great. However, that was the only good thing about my experience today. It appears that there was only 1 server/ bartender on duty. So she was doing all the work. There were about 7 tables (that I saw ), and most of them had already started eating, or they were cashing out. I ordered shrimp n grits and the jarrassic bacon, two of my favorites! I chose breakfast republic today for those items. I waited for almost 10 mins to place my drink order and made sure to order all my food at the same time since it looked like she was not going to come back any time soon. Every time I've been here, the wait for the food tends to be a bit longer, which is fine because it has always come out delicious. My bacon came out CLEARLY BURNT. Why would you do that?? AND my poached eggs were not drained before they put them on my plate, so the grits were swimming in egg water. I had to use my one napkin to drain what I could off of it. One of the eggs was busted open, and they didn't look like they were cooked properly. (These are my favorite way to eat and cook eggs, so i am familiar with how they are SUPPOSED to look when cooked properly. ) The grits were not cooked all the way either. I'm so hungry that I just ate them because my server was nowhere to be found. I asked for more napkins, and I never got them. She also forgot my straw. She said she'd have new bacon br brought out, but that wasn't the case either. What a disappointment. In all fairness, she did comp my burnt bacon and my drink, but it would've been better to get good service and food. She also had her young kids there helping grab utensils for guests and what not. That's kinda gross. When was the last time they washed their hands???
After a bad experience at one of their other locations recently, it looks like I won't be inclined to return any time soon, if at all. It sucks because this was a go-to spot for me! Service was bad, and the food was gross. It's such a shame that it's gone downhill. I do not...
Read moreBreakfast Republic: Another stop on my Southern California vacation was Breakfast Republic (BR), which offers a variety of creative dishes to help customers start their day. I tend to judge breakfast restaurants on both their selection of pancake varieties and how well said pancakes look & taste. Earlier this year I tried Oreo Pancakes for the first time from a different diner and was so impressed that I couldn't pass up BR's take on the dish. BF's Oreo Cookie Pancakes are chocolate pancakes with cream filling and Oreo cookie crumble. My order came with a stack of three fair sized chocolate pancakes. I found the pancakes themselves to be a little dry, so nothing overly impressive there. A few Oreo Cookie crumbles along with powdered sugar decorated the top of the stack. What I really care about though is the cream filling and boy was there....... not a lot of it. Cutting into the stack I discovered that while there was an average amount of cream filling spread in the center of the stack the periphery had none (which played a hand in the previously mentioned dryness to the stack). These pancakes were not bad, but I've had much better so I found them to be disappointing (good vs great). To show you just what I mean I'm going to include a picture of the Oreo Pancakes from Baja Cafe (BC) in Tucson, AZ. BC's version is comprised of "Two Oreo pancakes double stuffed with Oreo creme and placed over crème Anglaise. Finished with Oreo cookie crumb and whipped cream" (check out the pic I included). I encourage BR to check out BC's menu as it might give you an idea on how to spruce up your take on Oreo Pancakes. *I also placed my order online and it wasn’t ready until about 10 minutes after the pickup time (not a huge deal, but we were on our way to visit the zoo and it put us behind...
