Bushfire Kitchen - Del Mar — Restaurant in San Diego

Came here because of the good reviews, and the menu looked really good. I think this place has a lot of promise, but it just didn't measure up.

The outdoor patio is very nice, and the menu has some great choices.

I ordered the chicken bowl that says it comes with a sauce, and teriyaki is recommended. When I ordered, I asked for the teriyaki sauce. When I got the bowl, it did not have any sauce, so had to wait, ask a waitress, she brought back some cold teriyaki sauce a bit later. My bowl was only lukewarm when they brought it, and it had to sit for a while while I waited for the sauce. When I added the cold sauce, my meal was barely warm and not that appetizing. I think it would have been good if it could have been warmer.

We ordered sweet potato fries, and I asked the cashier if I needed to take ketchup packets, or if they would bring ketchup to the table. She cashier said if I wanted some, they would bring it. I asked please. Well, they did not bring any, I had to go back inside and get packets. The fries did not come with any sauce as other people describe. The sweet potato fries were really good though, and hot. It doesn't really make a good meal for each person to keep having to get up to get things ( as other diners in my group did too)

The last item my family ordered was the vegan sandwich. My companion said the sandwich was OK, but the bread was dry and cold, and the sandwich was just OK.

It all sounds really good, and looked good. I think if things had been executed the way they were supposed to be, it would be a good place, it just didn't...

I don’t usually write reviews, but I felt like Bushfire deserved the highest praise. From the moment I walked in, I knew I was in for something special. The atmosphere was warm, inviting, and had this relaxed yet refined energy that made it feel both comfortable and elevated at the same time. You can tell a lot of thought went into creating a space that feels both stylish and welcoming. Now let’s talk about the food—because wow. It was truly phenomenal. Every bite was packed with rich, bold flavor, and you could taste the quality of the ingredients and the care that went into each dish. From the perfectly cooked meats to the fresh, vibrant sides, everything on the table was absolutely delicious. I genuinely don’t think there was a single thing I didn’t love. You can tell this place takes pride in their menu, and it shows. And the service? Absolutely outstanding. Our server was attentive, kind, and knew the menu well. They struck the perfect balance between being helpful and giving us space to enjoy our meal. Every staff member we interacted with was professional and genuinely friendly, and it added so much to the overall experience. Bushfire completely exceeded my expectations. Between the amazing food, incredible service, and warm, welcoming atmosphere, it was easily one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in a long time. My first time ever at Del Mar location and per a locals' recommendation got a 'Brisket Bowl' to go. Once home I was disappointed to discover the portion ratio of 70/30/10, mashed potatoes, cauliflower and brisket. The food was all delicious but when I went back a few days later to inform the manager and ask if this was typical he admitted that due to recent personnel turnover issues there had been numerous complaints but the issue was now resolved. Instead of offering to 'make it right' with the same bowl and a more typical, larger brisket portion he asked if I'd like to try an empanada on the house which I accepted and then left with a dissatisfied note to self to not return. Such a shame really since the food is really good and priced accordingly provided the portions are commensurate. I'd also suggest properly training on site management in the art of 'making it right'.
