TL,DR: they took 55 minutes to make takeout food, and intentionally stalled for 20 minutes when I wanted to get a refund instead of food. Not a trustworthy business
I ordered takeout from here on a Saturday morning. They don’t give a time estimate before ordering, which is risky, but I did it anyway and they estimated 20 minutes after I ordered. That’s a little long for takeout, but not unheard of. Well, I asked for my food at 10 minutes mostly to let them know I was there. It wasn’t ready yet, no big deal. 10 minutes later (when they said it’d be ready), they offered me a coffee while I wait, which I realize is a bad sign since they don’t expect it to be done soon. 30 minutes into the wait they tell me all the food is ready except 1 item and it will be done soon. 10 minutes later (40 after ordering), I’ve now witnessed 2 families leave the restaurant without eating because the food never came out (after they waited in line for 30 minutes). They were supposedly waiting to talk to the manager who never came out so they just left after a few more minutes. I had to leave for a party so I told them if the food wasn’t coming out I’d prefer a refund, as it’s been too long and most of the food is cold already. They said “it’s almost done but no problem we will get the manager”. Another 5 minutes go by with no contact and I chase them down. They tell me the manager (and point to a woman I now know is not a manager) will take care of the refund in a minute. Another 10 minutes go by (55 minutes now after ordering), the food comes out, and they ask “do you want it”. Since it’s clear I’m not getting my money back anyway, I take the food and leave. The food I finally got was...
Read moreAs the only person who ordered a vegan dish, I enjoyed mine more than the others.
Broken Yoke is awesome to be very inclusive of vegan options; lots of dishes can be subbed with plant-based egg and sausage. They charge a hefty 'vegan tax' of ~$4 for the egg and $4.50 for the sausage. Yikes. At $16/entree, that's adding up for a pricier meal than one would expect for a run-of-the-mill breakfast spot. That being said, when I discovered the "Vegan Bowl" which had all of the above with veggies over homefries, my eyes lit up. And sure enough it delivered. The bowl had a great combo of Just Egg, Beyond breakfast sausage, and delicious bell peppers, onions, mushrooms, and spinach. With the potatoes it was extremely filling. I would have ordered without the sriracha as that didnt add as much flavor as the cholula offered on the table.
I gave four stars rather than five because 1) other people seemed to treat their dishes like they were pretty pedestrian and 2) my dish was delicious but not a far stretch from something I would have made at home.
The service was excellent, Savannah was attentive,...
Read moreIf you are looking for a wonderful place to enjoy breakfast with an expansive outdoor patio look no further. I would give it 6 stars if it was possible to do so. My husband and I enjoyed a very pleasant restaurant experience this morning at the Del Mar Broken Yolk. Our waiter, Geraldo, could not have been more upbeat and helpful. Exactly what we needed to cure a case of the pandemic blahs. Geraldo helped us narrow down our choices from the expansive menu and made recommendations that were spot on. We especially appreciated the selection of Mexican dishes that were on the menu as we are big fans of Mexican food. I ordered the eggs benedict combo, which allows you to choose 2 different styles of eggs benedict. I chose the benedict sopas that were complete with salsa & avocados. For my other benedict, I chose the traditional eggs benedict. For my side, I chose the homemade arroz. Yummm!! I ended up bringing one of the benedicts home because it was so much food. Anyway, it was a great dining experience. Even though we had never met Geraldo, our waiter, prior to our visit, he welcomed us like...
