Christy's Donuts — Restaurant in San Diego

As someone who has often worked in or around small airports, I learned, early on, that pilots always make sure to have good food nearby, and Christy's is no exception. And, as a certified "dough-nut," I believe that Christy's serves up what may well be the finest donuts in Southern California, (...and I've tasted most of the overpriced/novelty hipster ones. And, If you count a certain Portland chain, they may be the best on the west coast.) [EDIT: I recently returned from Portland and now agree that Voodo does have the best Yeast doughnut I've ever had (Specifically Hibiscus). Since I normally eat cake doughnuts I had never tried their yeast doughnuts -- and they are 5 lb. masterpieces, but I digress] Christy's texture is significantly different from most every other doughnut I've had -- the cake varieties anyway -- and her glazes are also superbly applied with loving care; take a close look. While I'm no baker, my guess is that Christy's infuses each donut with extra butter, or something that makes it a significantly moist denser crumb. Amazing... And, each time I've been here, the donuts could have been used in a photo shoot. What the proprietors perhaps lack in a pretense of fawning, they make up tenfold in a quality product. The lady *(I presume Christy?), who's most often here when I've been here said they've been in the space for over 35 years. So - give her a break. She surely gives you one on prices - as they are in the In-n-Out affordable range, as compared to other bakeries, even with the ongoing inflation. The...

I believe my search for the best local donuts in San Diego has finally come to an end. I had the orange glazed old fashioned, blueberry buttermilk bar and the strong iced coffee. All were amazing! No pictures this time but next time (and yes there will absolutely be a next time) I will post pictures! Update!! I went back and they are still my favorite donuts in San Diego. This time I got an orange glazed crueller and a maple buttermilk bar. Both were absolutely perfect. The kind lady also threw in some glazed donut holes out of the kindness of her heart. I got the strong iced coffee again and it is still awesome! I swear I will take better pictures...

So happy to have found this place. I used to live right next to Rose Donuts on Linda Vista Rd/Napa St and I haven’t been able to find a good replacement since moving near Convoy a couple years ago. Christy’s is the only good spot in the Kearny/Convoy/Clairemont area that has good classic donuts, but more importantly, they do a solid job of making my custom bagel sandwich order.
