El Pollo Loco — Restaurant in San Diego

As El Pollo Locos go, this is a particularly good one. I typically visit using the drive-thru. Being a vegetarian a very picky eater, I ALWAYS make changes and substitutions to much order. The drive-thru is where one expects this type of order to go sideways. The crew at this El Pollo Locos is consistently up to the task. My order is correct every time. I always ask for lots of several different kinds of their incredible house-made salsas. I find all of them in the bag just as I asked for, each and every time. For those unindoctrinated to El Pollo Loco in general, the fast-foo d chain offers a nice selection of burritos, tostada salads, and chicken with sides like mashed potatoes, beans, and my favorite Mac and cheese. They offer catering and most stores offer local delivery. This particular location has an easily accessible drive-thru, several onsite parking spaces that are well-lit in the evenings and an eat-in dining room. The highlight for me is the salsa bar featuring numerous kinds of freshly made salsas made onsite as well as cerrano chilis and hot carrots. I love Pollo Loco. My partner loves Pollo Loco. We all loveee Pollo Loco, and try to eat at one whenever we see one. Where we live they don’t have any and so when we come across one we have to eat our fave chicken meal. We were excited about this location. The store was clean and there were lots of people already inside. When we got our food tho, we were very disappointed and left feeling sad. The rice was bland and not hot. The beans were missing their signature zing. The hot sauce was a little thicker than normal. And the most disappointing aspect was the chicken. It was missing something, it had just a faint taste of its signature flavor. I don’t know if this specific location was short on all their ingredients and therefore everything was “watered down” or if maybe their cooks are all new? It doesn’t matter, either way I would never go back to this location. I would not recommend...

The food was good, but when we went through the drive-thru, the woman said that it would take 15 min for them to make the food. We said that we would pass on ordering then, but then she said that "Oh, we have it ready right now". When we pulled up to the window, we asked again and she totally avoided the question, we asked twice more and she said she had it right there. But then we waited for 15 minutes for our food. We already paid so that is why we didn't leave. Our food was fresh, but it was pretty unprofessional and deceptive of the employee to lie to us, plus this location isn't in the best area of town, and while we were waiting a homeless man came up to our car and stared at us through our window.
