Islands Restaurant Mira Mesa — Restaurant in San Diego

Upon arrival my husband and I were immediately greeted by the hose and sat at a small booth, it was a very snug fit so I asked to be moved to a more comfortable table. We were then were sat at a more comfortable table for us. Our server Emmy came to our table with napkins and coasters and asked us what we'd like to drink. I ordered a root beer and my husband ordered a coke. I had a coupon for a free order of chips with guacamole and salsa, so I presented that to the server. She entered my code in and brought us our drinks and gave us a few more minutes to decide what we'd like to eat. Our server brought us the chips and took our food order. I ordered the Yaki tacos and my husband ordered the Kilauea burger with fries. We really liked the chips with guacamole and salsa, although the guacamole needed a little more salt(which we added ourselves). Our dinners came out scattered, which I did not like. My husband's fries and burger came out atleast 5 minutes before my tacos. My husband liked the fries and his burger, he says he'd definitely get it again. My Yakima tacos were very good, although I wish there was more chicken and more teriyaki sauce in them. You could tell all the ingredients was very fresh, which we appreciated. On our way out, I did see a few tables that still looked like they hadn't been cleaned up and that was unappealing. Overall it was a good experience and we'd definitely come back again. It was a decent price and alot of food, we even took home alot of our dinners...

I love the food of this restaurant. It is very high quality and comes in large portion. However, what I am going to write, is about my tonight's experience of their customer service.

They are really busy on the weekends, which is natural. They were also short staffed which delayed their whole process. The manager himself was working as a chief. That being said, the young lady in the front was EXTREMELY rude. when I asked for the reservation, she asked me that it is going to take from 5 to 10 minutes for them to prepare our table. When I gave her my contact info, she did NOT even get my phone number. She impolitely asked me: are you gonna run away??

When I got back ten minutes later, she said our table is not yet ready and it will take them 10 to 15 minutes. She even changed her words and said: I told you it's going to be 15 minutes.

I talked to the manager about such immature, pathetic behavior of that person. I am a teacher myself. The kids at school learn to behave civically and interact with mutual respect. The attitude of that young lady was way below the appropriate standards at a restaurant or any other workplace. I am giving 5 stars to their foods. But in terms of the staff and their customer service, there is a lot that they must take into their consideration.

Great waitress, mediocre, overpriced food and overall so so experience. Had to wait over an hour for seating for a group of ten even though I had called a week in advance for a large table for an adult’s birthday dinner. I was never told that they have almost no seating for large groups, only that I may have to wait 10-15 minutes once we got there for them to set up a table. The only place they could set us up had a party of four taking up the space and were still sitting and just hanging out 45 minutes after their bill had been paid. They were not ordering, just hanging out. I asked the manager if he could cordially ask them if he could refill their drinks and move them to a booth for four so he could set up a table for ten in the only available spot in the restaurant. He said he couldn’t do that.

In the end the manager treated us to two appetizers and brought our birthday boy a big birthday sundae. Our waitress was amazing but by then, we were rushed and pretty soured on the place and experience.

I told the manager that someone should have been up front with me when I called a week ahead and just told me that they have extremely limited (almost non existent) space for large parties. I would have thanked them and...
