Food: 4.5/5 Service and Setting: 2/5 Value: 2.5/5
Though an unpopular opinion, chain restaurants are able to become chains because they offer something good that satisfies a majority of people. As I slowly revisit the chain restaurants of my past, I am always humbly reminded that the food is good. Jersey Mike’s in Black Mountain feels new and clean in a sort of dated-looking plaza. The workers were nice and communicative, however, they neglected me for another customer. I ordered my sandwich on the phone and was quoted 10 minutes. When I arrived, they said that someone else ordered the exact same things and they gave it to them instead since they ordered in-store. I waited an additional 10 minutes. While not earth-shattering, it did leave a bad taste in my mouth due to the lack of professionalism. I will treat this as a sort of one-time thing, but maybe you should give yourself some extra time if you order on the phone or app.
#66 Portabella Cheese Steak: 4.5/5 I’ve never been to Philadelphia or eaten a “real” cheese steak before, but I imagine that it is not too far off from the one created at Jersey Mike’s. The American cheese they use is very mild and sort of sauces the whole dish as it melts into the natural juices of the steak, acting as a cohesive glue both in structure and flavor. I...
Read moreThe best sub shop in the area, no doubt. The “Giant” sized sub is exactly that. I’m a big eater and even I had to take home the last section! They have lots of sandwich choices, both hot and cold. I got the “Original Italian”, Mike’s way, which is basically everything on it. The sandwich was well-built, with lots of meat, cheese, and veggies. The staff was friendly, helpful, and patient; they will make sure your sandwich is made exactly the way you like it. The soda fountain has the usual Pepsi products, but they also offered “Stubborn” brand root beer and creame soda. The seating area was very clean with lots of elbow room, probably around a dozen tables, including a few outside the shop. I’ll definitely come back. (I haven’t had a chance to check out their app and rewards program, so I can’t offer any insight...
