La Fuente is a terrific place to stop by for late night Mexican food if you get the munchies after dancing or having some other type of fun earlier in the evening. We walked in and were greeted by a worker who didn’t welcome us or say anything. He just walked to the register and waited for us to order. Not the friendliest by any means but maybe he was having a bad night. The place has plenty of seating, both inside and outside and it’s brightly lit. There is a salsa bar to meet any sauce requirements you may have. We ordered the carne asada quesadilla and the fish tacos and the cashier handed us a receipt with our number (without a thank you or any sort of acknowledgement). They have a machine that calls out the numbers for them as food becomes ready for pickup. We grabbed our selection of salsas and sat down. A short while later our number was called and we grabbed our food. The carne asada quesadilla comes with cheese and pico de gallo inside. I was surprised by the pico but it was tasty enough. That being said, I think it contributed to the tortilla getting soft too fast though so if I were to order again I might ask for it on the side. My partner had the fish tacos and said they were huge and tasty. All three salsas I tasted were delicious but I liked the red salsa the best over the green and the hot orange one. The orange was supposed to be the hottest but still wasn’t crazy hot like I’m used to. Overall the food is great late night fare and maybe the cashier was just not having his best night. Hopefully they will be friendlier next time. La Fuente also has a drive through available and a few parking spots on the side if you’re lucky enough to nab one.

I live near this place and go here often and the food and service is perfect like 4 out of 5 times. The only negatives I can point out is that their Jamaica is too bland most of the time, but the Horchata is fire!!! Every once in a while I might get rolled tacos that are too peppery (with literal black pepper) or maybe some guac that's a little more brown then I care for, but otherwise I love coming here. I am a vegetarian and this place is very accommodating and I will happily walk past other restaurants to come to La Fuente. The photo I attached is Carne Asada fries (with no meat) and they filled that container to the brim!!! I've never been happier. I usually spend $15-$20 each visit and they do have a rewards system! Plus an open salsa bar with several different salsas and veggies. I love the habanero salsa (the orange one). Yes there is seating inside and outside. Sometimes they have really good music playing. They also do taco Tuesdays outside! Take it from someone who lives in the area and comes here often, La Fuente is worth it. That and Colima's down the street are the best 2 Mexican places in Hillcrest.

One of the places I missed most when I moved to LA. Worst customer service from Maria. The menu board only has a "spicy a la diabla" which has shrimp. I ordered the "A La Diabla burrito" I missed saying the word "spicy". So, I was given a beef diabla burrito. I walked back to the counter and talked to Maria that I think they made a mistake. She explained why I was given the beef burrito vs the shrimp. I then explained that what she gave was not on the menu. As she again tried to explain while trying to find what she gave me on the menu, which she could not find it. But tried to turn in on me that I made the mistake ordering. Maria is a horrible person and worker. I will NEVER be back. The place is dirty anyways.

The food here is great, but the service is and always has been rude and unfriendly. I came tonight and ordered food with a friend. My order was upcharged a dollar for "protein", even though my receipt says I paid for carne asada fries. When I asked about the charge, the woman said "we're charging extra for food with protein". My friend ordered 2 birria tacos, which have protein in them, and he wasn't charged extra, making me feel like they're arbitrarily overcharging people for their food when they can get away with it. As I asked questions about being overcharged, a drunk sorority girl from SDSU and her boyfriend from Sacremento told me to "stop being mean" and taunted me, asking if I "wanted a dollar". The woman working there did nothing to stop the confusion, and only exacerbated the misunderstanding that was going on by waiving a dollar in my face, which I refused. Then my order came out and my friends order didn't. I went to ask about my friends order and, before I could say anything, the drunk college students began berating me again. I almost left without my friends food, but instead I waited 10 minutes until the college students had left and asked quietly "my friend ordered right after I did, and he didn't get his food. Can we please have the food we paid for?" when I said that, she magically found his food.

The whole experience was embarrassing and degrading, and I was shocked, to say the least. I've put up with the attitude of the staff there in the past because the food was good and usually quick, so you don't have to interact very much. Sufficed to say, I won't be going again...

Changed their menu and didn't update their website, so I ordered a combination plate #4 (taco, enchilada, and tostada) by phone from their online menu. After getting it home, discovered it was 2 flautas instead. When I called back I was informed that what I wanted was a #1 . I advised the girl who took the order that the website was wrong and also that the flautas were burnt anyway. We brought it back only to discover that the #1 had taquitos instead of a taco and no tostada. Only 2 items. Their entire menu has changed and the employees are not knowledgeable about what is offered. On top of this there is a burnt taste to their sauces and their tortillas are over fried. Their Diablo salsa which is supposed to be hot is NOT and burnt. Their so-called Habenero salsa is sweet and also NOT hot. The beef in my beef taco had some very fatty hard to chew pieces as well...very poor quality. Almost scrap meat. The employees seem unconcerned about the misinformation both on their website and on the phone. No apologies for anything. Will never go back which is unfortunate because their food and salsas used to be quite...
