I don't like to complain but my visit was not good. I got there and had a reservation but was not acknowledged. No one was at the hostess station so i walked in to find someone and he told me to just grab a seat. Okay. So I grab a seat and it takes wayyyy too long for someone to come to my table. So I grabbed my own menu from the empty hostess station. Finally someone came. I had to get 4 biscuits for 15 bucks which is weird to not have a single biscuit as an option as I was there by myself. So he brings me this big plate of 4 biscuits with no smaller plate to eat my biscuit off of so I go for it. Okay. I order everything at once bc idk if they were short staffed or there was something off on scheduling but let me get this order in. I ordered a peach lemonade that ddnt taste like peach but it was decent. My entree was the gumbo...with chicken, shrimp, crawfish, sausage rice and whatever that sauce is that is on top. There was a lot of boiled chicken skin in it. Not sure if it's supposed to be made that way. It was a nice serving size so I don't mind the $25 price tag but 15$ for 4 biscuits was a bit ridiculous and they weren't that great- the jam/jelly tasted store bought and the sweet butter stuff didn't really go with the savory garlic cheddar biscuit. I also hope they are not proclaiming these biscuits to be homemade because they are not. The service was not great. there were two guys running around the restaurant so they were pretty busy but still everyone should get the same type of service. No one told me any names and both of them had stopped by the table so idk who actually was the server. But maybe stopped by the table once or twice...not the best...on top of that there is a service charge for the price of goods and staff ( it can be removed if you let them know) I went ahead and paid it bc of the verbiage but are the customers pitching in on the base salary and tips for the employees- if so the service should be top notch. I could have left without paying bc of there was such a high level of inattentiveness...I could have easily slipped out but that's not in my character. Please pay attention to your customers. Anyway...this is my opinion from.one visit...try for yourself and see. GOD Bless and...

We had reservations for a party of 10 last evening. We were seated pretty quickly, but we were seated outside and it was a very chilly evening! We asked our server ( I don't know her name) to turn on the heat lamp because we were freezing. She said yes of course, we’ll get that lit up for you and she takes the drink order. We are literally shivering, even the men are complaining about being cold. She comes back with drinks and we ask her again, please turn the heat lamp on. She says yes, we're working on getting that done for you right now. She starts to take our orders, but people have questions about the menu items, so she says that we are not ready to order yet, she's going to give us a couple of minutes, and she leaves. One of the men in our party goes inside and asks again if someone could turn the heat lamp on, they said they’d take care of it. The server is gone for about 10 or 15 minutes. In the meantime, I picked up my phone and call the restaurant and let them know that we are out here freezing to death, waiting for the lamp to be lit. Naomi, answers my call and turns around and looks right at me (she was at the entrance greeting and seating the guest) and immediately attempts to turn the heat lamp on. It took some work, but she got it going! We were very grateful for Naomi’s assistance. Our meals finally arrived kind of randomly, one out of the 10 of us received her food first. About 5 minutes later more food came out. The young lady who took our ordered kept saying things were coming out right, right now, but they weren't, but they weren't, some things never made it out. Needless to say, the service was terrible and she shouldn't have received a tip, but she did. I've eaten here, or ordered food to go on several occasions, this is not the norm. Our food was not as tasty as it usually. The wings were good, the Gouda mac and cheese was tasty. Some dishes were over seasoned(rabbit dish), and some were overcooked(catfish) however, I will give them another try because I know that they are better than this. The chef is amazing, that server is trash and Naomi saved the...

My husband and I were visiting the San Diego area for my birthday and we found this restaurant on Thrillist. The nod was seconded by one of our Lyft drivers, so we made reservations as we drove past the restaurant after leaving the zoo.

Let me start by saying that from the beginning our server Ayauna was the absolute best. Her customer service & interpersonal skills, as well as her recommendations were great. She did not skip a beat and remained pleasant the entire time.

My husband and I ordered a few things off the menu because we were eating with our eyes, and we wanted a good sample set to try. We started with the Alligator Andouille Cheesecake & we were pleasantly surprised. I had read the rave reviews but still didn’t know what to expect. You can’t skip this, you must try!

For my husband I ordered the Dooky Chase (a nod to the famous New Orleans restaurant) with a side of red beans and rice. The chicken was fried to perfection and juicy and flavorful on the inside. The red beans and rice were good, but not completely reminiscent of that traditional New Orleans flavor. And I travel there at least once per year.

For myself I ordered the Oxtail Skillet, with a side of candied yams (extra). Let me say this, I’m from Miami and have had oxtail every which-way you can imagine: Cuban, Jamaican, Southern, Haitian (legume) and everything in between. Not only were these oxtails delicious, but I have NEVER received such a large portion of oxtail in my LIFE. And baby that is NOT a complaint!

We also ordered a lemon pepper catfish by itself and candied yams. We literally could not complain about anything.

The prices are extremely fair for the portion sizes. This was the best food we’ve had in San Diego so far and we are on day three of our trip. I forgot to mention the ambiance and vibe very nice. There was R&B playing in the background but at a volume low enough that I could enjoy my husband’s conversation. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and if you happen to sit outside on a chilly night they have plenty of outside heaters to...
