June 9, 2022 I am overjoyed to have such an authentic Mexican restaurant just a half-mile away in San Diego! This is the only such restaurant I need unless I’m once again able to travel south of the border one day. Why am I so loyal? Because about 15 months ago, at 73 and barely able to walk a few feet, I was so disabled and isolated I was running out of food! One phone call, they didn’t know me at all, and this loving crew of family members decided to help an “abuela” in need and started delivering the most heavenly perfect food right to me inside my house and set it up for me to eat.
But it’s been a long time since those deliveries as my heath conditions changed. I still need a walker and it’s still hard and painful to walk even inside my house. BUT yesterday, I dared myself to walk the entire 1mile from a doctors appointment to my house. And El Cuervo was on the way home, so I decided to surprise them by walking in THEIR door to get my food instead of them walking into MY door like last year!
I ate the fish taco like I was starved because that’s what you do with PERFECTLY prepared food! Once done (and several napkins later), I tossed back the rest of the hot sauce like a tequila shot, because that’s what you do with a PERFECT chaser to a perfect lunch! Took a video for Facebook, and then put the gigantic machaca burrito I ordered to-go into my walker and…. stood up and finished that mile with their energy and love sustaining me to my door. I will invest MY energy, love and funds to El...
Read moreEl Cuervo is one of my favorite family owned Mexican mom and pops. Their carne asada is marinated well with what I believe are hot carrots and pico. The Carne Asada Chimichanga is huge and tastes amazingly juicy, cheesy and delicious. I’ve also had their carne asada sans tortilla so it’s an option if you don’t want the carbs. Also just had the plain carne asada burrito in the past and it’s tasty.
El Cuervo is also my workplace’s favorite place for breakfast burritos. We order the Chorizo, Carne Asada, Bacon and Machaca burritos and they cut them in half or thirds if we ask them to. Also love their salsa bar - pico and the red sauce are my faves.
This is a typical counter service restaurant and the service is friendly and typically prompt. There is plenty of seating snd, except occasionally at the lunch hour, I’ve rarely had trouble finding a table here. While this place isn’t as popular as some of the more trendy and Mexican places around San Diego it’s absolutely one of my favorite go-to’s. Parking can be a bit of a challenge at times now that they no longer have the lot immediately adjacent to the restaurant anymore but...
Read moreI’m so sad El Cuervo is gone. It was my go to. I tried the new places mini tacos in both pollo and carne asada and they were both dry. Took a little long to get food and also the flavor was just good.
Previous five star review: Growing up in San Diego I've tried many Mexican places and i think El Cuervo is a standout. My favorites include Carnitas plate Anything with their refried beans 🤪 Pollo asada Tj tacos- you can taste some funky meats- pretty sure they serve cow brain Their shrimp tostada is like ceviche on a hard tortilla and its yums Their spicy carrot
And now they have a healthier menu too which I cant wait to try!
So basically I like everything I prefer to call in an order on the way home and pick it up Only downfall for me is that washington gets pretty locked up in traffic
Oh and parking here can be tough. They used to have the lot next door to them but the office building owns it. I parked there and went in for 5 min to pick up my order and got a 40 dollar ticket. You can try street parking on the 1 way street or right in front...
