I've been trying to get out to try all the various independent pizza places in SD, and found this place after scouring some reddit posts regarding good NY-style pizza in the city.
I was super pleased to find they were open on a lazy Sunday afternoon, and were relatively busy given the time of day. When I got there, they assured me they were working on my order as fast as they could. I made sure to let them know I was in no hurry, and that I had heard the pies were worth waiting for.
Brought the pie back to my buddies house in PB where we had our traditional Sopranos Sunday(we just throw on a season and let it play in the background while we hang out).
The pizza is close to what I consider perfect. Crust is NY-thin. Chewy, and crispy (not that square-cut Chicago "thin" stuff). The cheese is a good quality, whole milk mozzarella that is very light on the grease compared to some other places(practically no drips at all), and the sauce was sweet and mildly tangy, with a strong, fresh tomato flavor. A good raw red sauce all around. No overpowering spices like oregano or cheap Full Red canned flavor.
The evening culminated in finishing some still-delicious cold slices during the Talking Sopranos podcast.
I've found my favorite so far! Better than Luigi's, Landini's, Milo's, Bronx, and all the other ones I've tried!
I'll definitely be back to support this place!

Read moreThis is going to be long story but well worth it. I have literally driven across the country this past week. My wife and I are from the Toledo area of Ohio. We looked at some reviews on google to find a good pizza while we are in San Diago for the week. I happily stumbled across Pauly's Pizza Joint. We ordered the Calzone and the Stromboli. These were both amazing. We also got to meet Pauly. We had an amazing visit while picking up our food. I am sorry I cannot remember the young ladies name that was there cooking with him, but I do remember she was from upstate New York. She is a wonderful addition to this business and makes you enjoy being inside. I do not think I can come with the proper words to explain how wonderful the food and these two individuals are. I will be eating here on my next visit and every visit as long as they are open. I would recommend this place to anyone that even thinks of trying this food. I cannot comment on the pizza because I did not have any, but it has to be amazing if anything like what I had. We are leaving in one day, but I may try and sneak out to try a slice and I will write another review if I do. I will leave you with this, if you are even considering this place as an option GO GET SOME!! You will be sorry if you don't, and if you get a chance to talk to Pauly embrace it. Five stars is not enough so I am giving them...
Read moreIt’s a traditional New York pizza, you pick a slice to heat it up and you’re on your way. For years, this has been one of my favorite spots. Pizza usually has a good variety and a lot of the side, especially the gelato are amazing. But the pieces are a little smaller than they used to be. And although there’s many times I’ve enjoyed this place, like all good things.. It’s coming to an end. It’s not just a higher prices or the hidden service fees. (Not marked anywhere on the menu ) Although I understand rising cost. Are two slices of pizza and the can soda are now worth 15 bucks?
But the Service seems to bark at you& the quality is not exactly as good as it used to be. Although there are still some exceptional things available. Now, I’ve know That even your favorite restaurants, you can have a bad experience, Once in a great while. But what happens when you just have four or five mediocre ones… well for me…. I think you...
