Definitely racist! Turned one of our black friends down for not having a valid (expired but had the extension in hand) ID and then let in the four white girls after us that were clearly underage without even checking ID and even winked at them. Then we were told to bring the paper extension from the dmv, went to go get that, came back, and still conveniently got turned down because it was "misinformation" after we waited the first time for manager approval. Then after that we were told "You can try your act at another bar" insinuating that we had fakes... Also as we waited outside to look up a new spot for our hangout, we saw them let in multiple other people who were younger looking than us in without batting an eyeball or checking id again. I totally understand that you're trying to protect your license and your small company, but after seeing who they chose to id / let in it because clear that the id was not the problem, which is what was upsetting.
At every single other bar we hopped at, either no one batted an eye or they actually scanned the ID which prompts the extension which was verified. Or they had the light thing that shows you if it's real or not. Didn't have problems anywhere else. (Probably because they didn't automatically assume some younger people of color were automatically criminals lol)
Wasn't going to ditch our friend and support a racist place that apparently has terrible drinks anyway. Bummer, it seemed...
Read moreNot A Critic Just A Customer!!!!!!!!!!!! Ultimate Thumbs Up Out of the Ordinary A must stop by Easy to find, very visible from street, nice location with pedestrian indulging in their choice Polite Provisions. While visiting SD this was one of the places my nephew Chauncey took us, let me just say I enjoyed myself immensely! The atmosphere was very lively, everyone was chatting and having a great time.the staff was great!!!!! I had the opportunity to chat with a few of them and they were very welcoming and educating me on the many different and unique drinks they were preparing, It was a delight watching each of them as they added their own special touch as if they could mix these drinks while blindfoldedI (just kidding) but they must be doing something very right because the orders kept coming and they kept pouring. Although we went there for drinks we did try the sliders, they were so delicious and yummy. The drinks are so awesome! Their infused mints, hibiscus, orange etc. My drink of choice was the Zombie, (I will.plead the fifth as to why I think they called it that) and it was just as tasty as it was artistically arranged. Not to mention the vast choice of beer to please the palet of just about any beer could want. Overall Pollite Provisions gets five stars!!!! Great job guys!!! and y'all really should consider opening a location to...
Read moreFinally found a decent lemon drop in San Diego! I know it’s an easy drink to make but other places in SD have let me down when it came to making a legit lemon drop. Polite Provisions is a must go to spot. I stayed down the street with some friends and noticed how popular this spot is, especially on the weekends. We came in on a Thursday around 4:30pm and we practically had the place to ourselves. The bartender was polite and knew what he was doing behind the bar. The architecture and decor inside is pleasant and attention grabbing. Grab a friend or two and check this place out, you won’t be disappointed. Their happy hour menu is really good too! I recommend the ocean side cocktail; it has an aromatic and fresh taste to it because of mint and celery bitters.
Update years later: Still one of my favorite bars around! Came here for my birthday on a Tuesday evening and had a very chill time. The bartenders are compliant with ABC standards and ID’ing EVERYONE. My first drink, Is It a Crime, was basically a bougie Paloma. I couldn’t taste the alcohol at all. I then went for some Lemon Drops to change that up and I enjoyed every sip of it. I also love the ambience, the lighting is just right , dim lights, burning candles at every table, creating an enjoyable experience for...
