Feels like Florence. As a long time Cucina Sorella fan, Trattoria da Sofia had some big shoes to fill. We really loved the new layout. It is inviting and has a great mix of table options for both larger groups or small parties. The floor is really cool and splits styles partway into the restaurant. We really enjoyed all of our dishes. The beat and fennel salad was well balanced with a ton of flavor. Our favorite dish was the short rib ravioli. It was savory and delicious. Portions were generous and we were happy with the price we paid for our meal. Service was great too. We will definitely be back. Food: 5 Service: 5 Ambiance: 5

We were sad to see Cucina Sorrella close, but now that we've been to Trattoria da Sofia, we are happy again. There are few things I like as much as a good gin and tonic, and the one I had at Sofia was not just good but epic! The bartender, Brandon explained the options and was very knowledgeable about the different gins. The drink was A-MAZING! I recommend the gin mare with elderflower tonic. I also highly recommend the carbonara -- just do it and work out harder tomorrow! We had the Tira misu for dessert. They build it in front of you. No skimping on the mascarpone cream... divine! I will be going back! Give it a try.

A Really Fine Meal!

We live a 6 minute walk from Trattoria da Sofia. For example, we are known by name at nearby Bleu Bohème, Clem’s Brewhouse, Ponce’s etc,. We eat out fairly often. We were hoping for a new place to eat – someplace we can frequent. Despite some of our friends’ lukewarm reviews during the first week opened, Sofia did not disappoint us at all. Before ordering, we munched on chunks of focaccia with marinara sauce – that sauce is unmistakenly homemade -- just so, so fresh.

There were five of us, so I got to taste quite a bit of several dishes. The Caponata Siciliana (marinated eggplant, olives, onions, etc) was nice; the buffalo mozzarella with the caprese salad was a generous portion (share this dish!) but the award goes to the Arancine. Typically, these fried rice balls can be dense and heavy. But not these. They were light (even fluffy) and deliciously seasoned. I never would have ordered this. I am glad one of my table mates did!

The winners for the main dishes were the “Ravioli di Pesce”. Sometimes I think it doesn’t matter what is inside a raviolo because the pasta and the sauce above it overwhelm the stuffing. But in this dish, the crab/shrimp and pistachio-stuffed ravioli shone through. The white wine cream sauce with flecks of smoked salmon was an enjoyable contrast, but almost unnecessary with the sublime ravioli filling. I ate the sauce and ravioli separately and enjoyed it all that way. A definite re-order for me next visit.

Lasagna had the best cheese filling – so smooth, and it was served piping hot. The pesto gnocchi is another recommendation to anyone vegetarian. I’ve never had pesto that was actually “airy”. (Typically these can be heavy). Ossobucco and “Sugo Pitttinicchi” (pasta with pork ribs and sausage) very much worth a try. Into dessert? Between the cannoli (authentically Sicilian – ie, no chocolate chips – thank you!), the lemon cake (sponge-airy, moist; not cloyingly sweet), and tiramisu -- we all had our favorites. The tiramisu was mine – real lady fingers. Apparently, they make their own mascarpone – much lighter and equally flavorful as any you can find on a grocery shelf.

Living nearby, we’d walk by during construction and their furnishing. When we saw them bring in fake flowers and put up faux marble columns and a fountain, we thought: Uh-oh....“Italian Kitsch” . But now that it is finished, we found the atmosphere lively and purposefully whimsical, resembling a piazza in a Sicilian town, clothes lines and all. Nice job.

So glad to live nearby. If this is what we can expect from you, our amici siciliani, we are going to be...
