Bay Area | Budget-Friendly Omakase with Generous Portions | Can't Stop Raving About Amami

I order the Omakase which was good for $42 but my husband was hungry and wanted a little more than 10 pieces, so he ordered a Deluxe “chef choice” sashimi for $64 and basically their deluxe version was just 1/2 of the plate was cheap common yellowtail & abacore tuna, and the other 1/2 was regular salmon with 2 pieces of thinly slivered salmon belly. No variety at all! Hey if you don’t want to give better fish for Deluxe sashimi then charged more to add them. Don’t use the word “deluxe” when you just use a boat load of mediocre meat with no variety. Looks like “chef’s choice” to them is to get rid of whatever cheap fish they have for the day! 😂

We went to this restaurant twice. It is a nice place. The sushi and sashimi tasted good. Not as expensive like other Japanese restaurants. Thier omakase special was good as it has 10 different assorted sashimi. Only thing bother was someone smoking in the back of the restaurant and the wind blew the smoke in. We happen to sit near there so we smell the cigarette. The waiter noticed immediately and asked us if we like to move to a different table. That was great.

My one complaint is no vegan / vegetarian options on the lunch special bento box menu. The lunch special bento box is only for fish, beef, pork, and chicken. I asked for agedashi tofu to be the protein for my bento box and was told they'll have to talk to the boss, in the meantime, I had to order from the all day menu. I ordered the sweet potato tempura roll, which had a delicately crispy, pillowy soft bite to it - - lovely contrast along with the wakame su, which is a cucumber and seaweed salad, light and refreshing on this hot day! The next time I eat at Amami Sushi Bistro, I hope to see a vegan / vegetarian option added to the LSBB,...

First time here since the new business took over. I ordered spicy tuna roll. It was kinda meh. Nicely spicy but otherwise unimpressive. Dinner entree was "teriyaki" beef and tempura. The beef was basically super salty soy and garlic flavor. The meat was tender and cooked well, but the sauce was so salty I was coughing a little. The tempura was 2 pcs shrimp, acorn squash, potato, eggplant, onion ring and broccoli. The batter is really starchy and the veggies were kinda meh. Glad I gave it a chance, but I won't be back. Sucks because Tenroku (the previous restaurant) was my favorite...
