TL;DR: Great service, wonderful made-to-order coffee and sandwiches, aesthetically pleasing interior and exterior.

I saw the boat outside, so I knew whatever was inside would be interesting. After walking past the couches and tables, I got to the counter where I asked the cashier which sandwich he recommended. He was very helpful and told me about the more breakfast-y sandwiches and the all-day sandwiches. According to him, the Frankenstein, at $16.50, is a massive sandwich that's almost too big. I settled with the Bush St., which was $12.50. I also got an "ice mocha," which was about $5 (I'm not sure what the exact price was because I didn't get my receipt.)

While I waited, I looked around. There was a nice clock and an assortment of seating options ranging from couches to benches. There was a wagon with books and Chinese newspapers, and some vintage things including a baseball and Crayola box in what looked like a handmade cabinet. There were 20-somethings on laptops and phones and one older gentleman staring into space, probably reminiscing about the past. Also, some old photos on the walls and a framed flower made of a newspaper near the condiments and utensils counter.

I got my ice mocha, which was made to order. It wasn't very sweet, but sweet enough. My sandwich came a few minutes later; it was very warm and still a little crispy from toasting. I chose sausage instead of bacon as the meat, and it sat on the bread with lettuce, arugula, onion, and tomatoes, with egg and cheese on top. It was a nice combination of flavors and could be substantial enough for two people who aren't very hungry.

This is a perfect place for sitting down for a while, studying, or doing some work. They have WiFi and lots of table space. The food and coffee are good, and the large windows let a generous amount...

Rude waitress, very unwelcoming, their music has ads so if you like listening to commercials then this place is for you, highly recommend…

Edit in response to owner: Find better staff who welcoming because she was not. She was very cold. I was about to make a purchase until she said the store is closing at 6pm (in 4 minutes). So we left. And the closing time on Google listed 7pm. It’d be helpful for accurate operating times.

Second edit to response: I understand it’s a business. Every cafe we go to we are patrons there paying for the ammenities. Blue bottle, Cafe Reveille, etc. Cafes like those aren’t rude to their customers nor ask them to pay to be there in a passive aggressive way. She could’ve approached it warmly but didn’t. Watch the video again and look at her body language. She had such negative energy how she was talking to us. We responded by laughing it off with confusion like what just happened? Wouldn’t you? And yeah, we would’ve bought something like we always do with other cafes but not when we’re treated like that and the fact that we had minutes before closing the second time she came up to us. Again, we expected to be there till 7pm which Google stated was closing time. But it was in fact 6pm. It didn’t make...

Great experience all around- will be coming back and recommending to friends. Great ambiance and character to this place. The service was super friendly. Great work/study place with wifi (with $10+ purchase), outlets, good lighting, and plenty of tables. I got the garden bowl and an iced matcha latte. The matcha latte was good and what you’d expect. The garden bowl was delicious- loved the shiitake mushrooms and sesame oil in this bowl.

Edit: came back and tried the rainbow quinoa bowl (the one with a boiled egg vs fried egg on top + some other differences). The service was still friendly but I was disappointed that the bowl wasn’t as good. I also noticed that I was charged $17.33 even though the dish was listed as $15.95 on the menu- that was confusing but I was too shy to ask about it in the moment. The bowl was overall okay; I like the general composition of the bowl but the brussels sprouts were very salty and there were way more greens than quinoa. I ended up using none of the dressing because there was already so much salt on the...

Beanstalk Cafe has such a charming atmosphere — warm, colorful, and full of antiques that make the space feel unique and cozy. I really loved all the little details, from vintage photographs to rustic accents, which gave me plenty to look at while I sat with my drink. However, I was disappointed with the coffee experience. When I asked for brewed coffee, I was told they weren’t making any more for the day. I wish they had at least offered a pour-over option, especially in a city like San Francisco where coffee culture is such a big deal. Honestly, I’ve been pretty underwhelmed by the coffee shops here overall, and this added to that feeling. Still, the latte art was beautiful, and the vibe of the cafe is what really shines. If you’re looking for a cozy spot with great atmosphere, it’s worth a visit — just don’t count on getting a straightforward cup of brewed coffee late in the day.
