This place is great! And also, a great value.
I wandered in because this restaurant looked cozy. I sat at the bar and ordered the steak entree, with a whiskey cocktail. The bartender was very attentive and friendly, and the whiskey cocktail was satisfying, thought I would have liked it more chilled, if I must nitpick. The steak came with a small side of crispy potatoes and well roasted broccolini tops. The steak itself was a nice meaty cut, and well cooked - (medium rare, for me). I found the sauce that they used for the steak particularly delicious. The sauce was sweet, with a rich umami flavor that enhanced everything on that plate. I made sure to sop it all up with the crisp potatoes. The broccolini tops had a pretty strong char on the florets and that added a bit of bitterness to help contrast the sweet flavor of the sauce on the plate. Overall, I thought it was a really good dish and all for a reasonable price! If I had to nit-pick, I would have taken the sweetness of the steak sauce down by about 10%, but really, it was still a very satisfying experience. My bill for a drink and entree was only 60 before tip, which feels like a steal for an expensive city like SF. Also worth noting, the bartender was great. He greeted guests, was attentive, and cracked a couple light hearted jokes. That kind of person always makes a place feel even more...
Read moreThe food is excellent. The service was excellent. The drinks were very well paired. We had the tasting menu + wine pairings and let me just say that I'd never regularly order a pea soup. But that's the beauty of prix fixe because you'll get the chef's recommendation instead of your preference. Yo that pea soup was amazing! The layers of flavors was so impressive. At first I was disappointed because the portion size seemed really small, but it was so loaded with flavor and just heavy enough that the portion size was actually ideal. Then I had the steak. I took a bite of the steak and immediately thought of the years ago when I lived in Texas and there was always a crispy char from the grill on your meat. The taste was really impressive. We also had the salad which was a highlight and then the following courses kept getting better. We ended with cookies and milk, which was delicious but not as impressive as everything else. Our server was a doll and was so fun. The bartending staff was cool and they nailed the old fashioned we ended with. Can't wait...
Read moreCame here for drinks and a light appetizer before dinner somewhere else. Unfortunately, this was enough of a disappointment for us not to consider coming back.
I tried all three drinks in my party: War and Peace (rosé and mezcal cocktail), Post Office (guava and rum cocktail), and a Moscow Mule. The first two cocktails looked pretty but might as well have been fruit juice — couldn’t taste the alcohol whatsoever, and overall pretty bland. The Moscow Mule was overpowering with the ginger and once again, could not taste any alcohol. By no means am I in search of strong drinks as a rule, but I expect to taste -something-.
We ordered an $8 side of garlic fries that were pretty good, but seriously, it was the smallest bowl of fries I’ve ordered. For $8, we should’ve received many more fries than what we got.
