Me and my husband recently decided to visit cityscape for my 30th birthday and we had a deeply disappointing experience that highlighted serious issues with customer treatment and discrimination. Upon arriving, we were informed we could sit anywhere we liked so We sat down and ordered our drinks ,when we saw that there was an open space to sit where we could see the view alot better and it looked more comfortable, after confirming with our waiter if we would be able to move seatings he mentioned we could but it had to be cleaned first, after a few minutes, the space was indeed clean, we decided to move there. However, shortly after settling in, a white man who claimed to be the "host" approached us in a confrontational manner. Without warning, he grabbed our drinks and forced us to return to our original seats, claiming they needed to move us back because a group who was waiting needed this space, To not only me and my husband's surprise but also the group's surprise as well, he then proceeded to move individuals who had taken our original seats, creating further confusion and discomfort. It felt as though we were being singled out for no valid reason. We were so shocked and all he had to say was " well if it makes you feel better , I will pay for your drinks" money wasn't the issue here , I then told my husband, we should leave , we have never been treated this way, and As we were leaving , the larger group meet us and said they were leaving as well because they saw how we were treated , Ive never felt so humiliated ,this experience was not only embarrassing but also incredibly frustrating. I felt disrespected and unwelcome, It was my birthday , we were here to enjoy ourselves and It was clear that me and my husband ( we both are Mexican/American) were being treated differently from others in the venue . The gesture "paying for our drinks" felt inadequate, disrespectful and it did not address the core issue of how we were treated. This incident has left a lasting negative impression of this business for us, It’s crucial for businesses now days with inflation, to ensure that all customer feel respected and valued, regardless of their group or background. I hope management can take steps to improve their customer service practices and create a more inclusive environment. I encourage others to share their experiences and for the venue to reflect on how they can better serve...
Read moreHeard about this place from many sources of searching for some new places to go. Opened quite recently in October I heard about this place opening and have been meaning to go check it out. Finally got the chance to check it out on a Saturday evening. For some, it takes a little bit of time to find, but for others, it’s not that hard. To save the effort for most you just have to walk into the Hilton Hotel and continue on the left passing Urban Tavern towards elevators.
Upon going into the elevators, the main goal is to get to the top floor where this vast and upfront view of the bar is presented. Surrounding the bar is some ambient colored lighting that lights the place up to provide a bit of shine. Surround the bar is seating throughout which seems to be a decent number. Pretty sure there is availability for reservations, but it looked like it was open seating when I went. Surrounding the place are some colossal glass pane windows that encompass which provide a great perspective to the city of one to be quite rewarding.
From the outlook from the windows, you can soon realize that this place is one that surpasses in the height of Coit Tower, The View, Top of the Mark making it one of the highest lookouts. For the view alone it makes it worthwhile visiting, and it didn’t seem very packed.
From the perspective of the bar, our waiter was very polite and accommodating. Did feel like it did take a while to get service in at the place. While drinks were quite expensive and the lack of food options made one question the benefit of returning other than the view. Not to mention the food menu has potato chips for $7 and cocktails being almost $20.
Overall I would say the place is ideal for the view and great to way to portray the city planning and be able to get a dose of the attractions in the city from a top down look. I will be back to see how this place is during the day to potentially get some new shots on Camera, but not much else. I rate this place 3.5 stars not for the view because that is amazing, but the overpriced nature of being a hotel bar and the lack of...
Read moreWhere do I start? I was completely unimpressed with Cityscape, despite my initial excitement to check the place out. Firstly, there was no host/hostess greeting guests at the entrance, as one exits the lift. Upon walking in, I noticed signage informing patrons that only half of this top floor, crown jewel bar was operational. The other half was closed. How sad! And, there was a medical convention happening in the hotel on the day I was there. I got a very mediocre table, which I requested to change, but my wish was not met. Next I met Tony, my server, who was either overworked or simply did not understand great customer service. His attitude was unpleasant, and his vibe was off. He should have stayed home today. Then I looked at the Cityscape menu to discover that all the “Cosmic Cocktails” which are advertised on the website were not available. They only offered a few wines, very, very basic cocktails and light bites. Hmmm….. what’s going on with Hilton Union Square? I decided to go with a Dirty Vodka Martini and was surprised to see they are using Smirnoff. At 46 stories above the ground, I was expecting a more elevated experience! I also ordered the Cheese & Charcuterie Board. The cocktail was well done, I must say, but the Cheese & Charcuterie Board left me feeling underwhelmed. Yes, they did make an effort, but I could have pulled together a better selection of nibbly things at home. No culinary creativity at all. I finished my food and my first drink, and I would have ordered more, but I was not invited to relocate to a different table, as I had requested upon arrival, so I decided to take myself and my wallet elsewhere. I will not be returning to Cityscape because their standard is significantly lower than it should be for a city like...
