This little corner shop is a nice surprise on Ocean.
They have a wide variety of sandwiches and a few fresh Vietnamese rolls to choose from, plus some delicious shakes. I'm a big fan of the shaking beef and options to throw half and avocado in my sandwich (extra). The more standard pork based special also stands up well.
This is not a cheapy, OG Vietnamese sandwich shop--so don't expect $3 sandwiches (instead they are $5 - $5.50). But they are flavorful and stay true with good bread, pickled veggies and well seasoned proteins.
They have some good promos now and again: 10% off with Yelp check-in, and when I went to their Market St location I got a $1 off coupon for a sandwich on Ocean. Honestly where else besides Subway can you get a sammy that cheap? And at least you don't have to worry about yoga mat chemicals in your bread.
There is not room for seating inside the tiny counter shop, but they keep a few tables outside if you want to eat...
Read moreI tried the special, and it probably is the best Vietnamese sandwich in the Sunset, but there are better places in the city.
To start with the positives, the bread was good. Its crust was crunchy, and the inside was soft. The cucumbers, pickled carrots, and daikon were fresh, tangy, and provided a nice crisp to contrast with the soft bread and pork.
The roast pork was cooked well and had a good tender texture, but I thought it could use more seasoning. It was on the bland side for me, and I guess I can't really describe how it tasted because I couldn't really taste much flavor from it. The pate spread along the bottom was smooth, and not too metallic-y tasting, but I thought its flavor got diluted when mixed with the bland pork.
The sandwich wasn't awful, but I think there are better ones out there. I'll try the grilled lemongrass pork next time. Some sear marks should help pack some more flavor...
Read moreReally cute sandwich shop in a very cute neighborhood. Heard about this place on IG and the sandwiches sounded so good we had to try them. Upon arrival we thought it was an actual sit down restaurant but it was kind of like window service. The cashier was really nice and patient as I asked a million questions. I ordered the Kare Kare sandwich which was AMAZING! I could have eaten 2more. I also got the watermelon lychee smoothie and that was refreshing and the shrimp spring rolls. That was different because it had apples in it but it balanced it out to my surprise. Right next to the restaurant was a sitting area with plenty or tables and chairs. On a nice day it’s worth it to sit and enjoy your food in a nice area. I really enjoyed this place and want to come again. If you are in the area definitely...
