Recently heard a lot about a new French Bistro in outer Sunset "Galinette" my wife and I decided to give it a try. I asked the owner Alex, a debonair French fellow from Marseille the significance of the moniker " Galinette" apparently it's a sort of flying fish, which by the way is depicted on a painting of one of the wall. The place is small, with an open kitchen, there is two dining room one as you enter the restaurant with height tables or so, and another dining room adjacent with a long communal table that can seats 12 to 15 peoples, we sat in the first dining room, at a table for two. Both my wife and I found the place noisy & cold, we asked the waiter to close the door. We ordered, my wife the steam mussels, copious & well prepared seating on a green sauce ($17) with no accompaniment, we felt it should have come with fries, but you can order that separately for another ($7) she washed that with a glass of cote du Rhone ($16).
As for my self ordered the air fried half chicken with garlic sauted green beans, with a side order of fries. The chicken was cooked to perfection, moist and tender with a crispy skin smothered with a delicious cream sauce, the green bean were Al Dente, maybe a little too much al dente for my taste, but good. For dessert I tried the pot de chocolate ganache with creme fraiche and nuts, tasty and creamy. Coffee available, but no espresso, a must to any eateries "with it" nowadays. All in all, very decent place for lunch, with a decent menu, we will go back, there is a lot more items I...
Read moreDon’t go to this ridiculous restaurant. They asked us to write down our name, and phone number and wait for 30 minutes. We waited for 30 minutes without any phone call so we decide to walk back. No other names have been put down on the board, but other people who came after us were already seated.
We confronted the owner, but he is trying to brush us off by saying he doesn’t take charge of the front desk, but he was clearly there when we wrote down our name. He also recommended we take the outdoor seat after we put down our name on the board, but we declined, and let him know we would prefer to sit inside because we feel cold.
Before we left, I told the owner that this type of service is ridiculous, and he said I’m welcome to go to the restaurant across the street with better service. This feels like he is revenging us and being racist at the same time.
I was having a good experience when I went to this restaurant about 5 months ago, but guess like they now think we are not good enough to be their customer.
A tip of advice for people reading this, if you want better service, the restaurant across the street is better (that’s what the...
Read moreI’ve dined at this restaurant numerous times, the food is mostly good and it’s a nice change of menu to have in the neighborhood.
Unfortunately our last meal experience left us dissatisfied, mostly due to the service. Our table did not order any wine (typically we do, which now makes sense why the staff in previous meals were much friendlier).
After we had just ordered I walked up to the front to add another item to our order and was surprised to hear our waiter letting the other staff member know “they didn’t order any drinks” and to see him scoff and her turn around rolling her eyes, visibly annoyed.
Sure, we didn’t order wine and add $100 to our meal and maybe that’s disappointing to them. However this reveal of how they expect drinks to be ordered, the entitlement to say it out loud and make it clear they were displeased is not a welcoming feeling for anyone coming to eat in their space.
The waiter’s demeanor changed for the rest of the night and quite frankly we felt uncomfortable and had an awkward $200 dinner.
An...
