I have had the pleasure of dining at Lavash on two separate occasions, and I must admit that this Persian restaurant in San Francisco's Sunset neighborhood continues to leave an indelible mark on my palate. Lavash is not just a dining destination; it is a culinary gem that is unquestionably worth the drive from outside the city.
The food at Lavash is nothing short of phenomenal. On each visit, I have explored different aspects of their menu, and I cannot recommend certain dishes enough. The Sabzi Platter is a splendid introduction to the vibrant and diverse flavors of Persian cuisine. Lavash bread, fresh herbs, tomatoes, cucumber, walnuts, grapes, and delectable feta cheese create a harmonious medley of tastes and textures that are simply irresistible. The Shiraz Salad is another standout dish, showcasing the restaurant's commitment to using high-quality, fresh ingredients. Crisp vegetables, fragrant herbs, and a zesty dressing come together in a perfect symphony of flavors that refresh the palate.
One of the highlights of Lavash's menu is undoubtedly the Lavash Special. This dish is a true celebration of Persian culinary expertise. The tender and succulent meats, perfectly seasoned and charred to perfection, are paired with fluffy saffron-infused rice and grilled vegetables. It's a culinary journey that every food enthusiast should embark upon.
Lastly, the Makhloot, a delightful Persian dessert, is the perfect sweet ending to a remarkable meal at Lavash. It is half Faloodeh and half Bastani - its combination of pistachios, saffron, and rosewater, creates a dessert that is both exotic and comforting. Definitely a must-try with cherry juice and/or lime juice, which they serve on the side. (I even joked with the owners if I could buy a whole gallon of Bastani and have it in the comfort of my home. It's that good!!!)
In addition to the exceptional food, Lavash boasts a warm and inviting ambiance that complements the overall dining experience. The attentive and knowledgeable staff adds a touch of hospitality that makes each visit memorable.
Lavash has earned its place as a true treasure in the Sunset...
Read moreI'm very disappointed with this restaurant. We were 4 adults and 3 kids (~5 years old). When we arrived, we were told it will take 45 minutes that they prepare a table for 7 seats for us. We made a 30 minute walk in the neighborhood and when we came back there were 3 tables with 5 seats and 4 tables with 2 seats free, and there were no one else waiting to be seated. So we asked them if we can sit, and surprisingly they said :"no, not yet, because you are 7 people and we have only one table that can fit 7 people". So we waited for another 10 minutes, but that special table did not become free. So we asked them again and proposed to cascade two tables so that we all can sit. Again they said no and told us that those tables are reserved. About 5 minutes later, they put 7 chairs around one of those 5-seat tables and told us we can sit. Come on guys! You could do this much much earlier! So it turned out we just wasted our time waiting and our kids just got tired for nothing! Anyway, we sat on that table. Then it took about 30 minutes that they came and took the order! And guess what happened the next? We waited for an hour for our food to get ready! We pinged them several times that it's taking a long time that we were waiting for the food to get ready. But they just kept telling us that it'll be ready right now. And the last time we asked them how long we should wait, we were told they had some issues with their stoves and everyone is waiting not only us!!! At the end, we were able to see what we ordered on our table, but the food quality was not what we expected from a food with that high price. We had been to at least 10 Persian restaurants in SF and in bay area and I can tell by confidence this restaurant has the worst food and service quality. I can even say this was our worst experience ever at a restaurant. Please avoid this restaurant. BTW, those free tables that the old lady whom seemed to be head of the servers (or the owner!) told us is reserved stayed free for an hour or so. So they were not...
