It's okay.
If you literally have no where else to go then sure go here.
Let's look at a couple things 1) price 2) location 3) facility 4) relative value.
Price - there are a couple "plans" and "passes" to chose from but if you are a normal person looking for a monthly pass its going to be $70/month which is generally fine but it comes with a 6-month lock-in (so if you want to come here you MUST be willing to dedicate $400+ to this decision). Like are we really still doing lock-in contracts? In 2025? It's explicitly anti-consumer and not the best way to make a first impression.
Location - this is the best aspect of the gym by far. It's right in the inner sunset on 9th where I guess general gyms are harder to come by than a parking spot the day before street sweeping.
Facility - it's not great. It is cramped, not very clean (from my experience) and the machines are pretty dated and it feels like they only have 1-2 of some of the most common machines which means tons of people are waiting to use them and obviously they tend to break more and are out of service. Plenty of cardio machines though. It just feels like they know they have a great location and they can just stick as many cheap machines on the floor and never have to worry about people really leaving since its the only general gym near the inner sunset and they have a captive customer base.
Relative Value - there are simply better options than this gym for the value you get. If you are a corporate worker in SF, chances are that your building has a gym and is free to use and is probably less crowded than this one. If you take your health super seriously then there are plenty of Equinox clubs in the city that are much nicer (obviously for a higher price). Or if you need a quick membership 24hour fitness is $40 with no commitment. I think the best deal I've seen in the city is $119.95 at FITNESS SF where you get access to ~10 gyms and much better amenities.
As far as the other reviews go for this place, I do understand how this is a 5/5 experience. It's okay with the main benefit being...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIf you know what you're getting into, this gym is great. It is a lifting focused gym primarily specifically stocked with weights and weight machines. They also have personal training services available but they do not have group classes.
As someone who primarily lift weights, I absolutely love it as it has everything I need and nothing more. If you want other amenities like a swimming pool, group classes, locker room facilities, etc. then I would advise going somewhere else but if you're like me and want a convenient place with friendly staff to do simple workouts, you can't beat them.
Unfortunately due to COVID, the membership prices have gone up but I still firmly believe this is probably the best value for any gym on the west side of San Francisco. Be warned that due to the neighborhood, parking can be difficult, especially in the afternoon and...

Looks like a standard small neighborhood gym, but it has so much good equipment.
If you are into any serious weight training this place has what you need. Tons of rogue equipment, racks, bars etc. Lots of great impliments you won't find in regular spots. SSB bars, sleds, football bars, Kabuki bars, Rogue wagon wheels, loadable log press, and perhaps most important - no hex plates. Only downside is that it's very small and tight. But totally worth it for the access to amazing equipment.
If you want smoothies and Foo foo stuff, go to equinox. If you're into training...
