Nestled in the middle of Golden gate park, this little Grove is a memorial in remembrance to the thousands of people that have passed away due to HIV and AIDS in the United States. Not only is it beautifully curated with plants and dedication stones, but it also serves as a local outdoor venue for a multiplicity of different outdoor events like picnics and music festivals and silent disco parties and grassroots events. One of the most notorious events is called flagging in the Park which is a monthly event that happens during the summer where people come out to picnic music played and the local flaggers come out and show their skills. Read moreThis is a beautiful part of Golden Gate Park. It can make one sad to reflect on why it's named what it's named, and to read the inscriptions chiseled into the various rocks that abound. On the other hand, with so many of the inscriptions saying the departed "lived life to the fullest," "brought joy to all," or "was everyone's best friend," eventually I found myself somewhat cheered up.
