This Local Diner on Market Street close to Van Ness is definitely a hidden gem. They are a family run local business and open early for American style good old fashioned Steak and Eggs which was cooked perfectly and the other dish which I shared with my partner was sausage and bacon with eggs to order and choice of toast or English muffin, and also a choice of home fries or hash browns. My partner and I were starving and it was my first time going to this Diner across from the Whitcomb hotel close to 9th street on Market Street in San Francisco. Both of us weee full and happy with our selections and I highly recommend this local family owned diner for breakfast lunch or early diner. The steak and eggs was my favorite so far out of everything I tried. Will be returning and if you are visiting San Francisco AAA tourist or for a play or just visiting friends I would try this spot out in the morning or early afternoon. It gets very busy on weekends so I recommend going on a weekday is possible. The employees are nice and the restaurant was clean and the food was good! So thanks to the cooks for preparing the food and for the employees for being patient and explaining all the different items that are able to be substituted or not able to be switched around (like half and half of country potatoes and hash browns is sometimes an option-and I like to mix the two potatoes because I’m a foodie..but not available here. Luckily my partner and I always eat family style so we just shared the potatoes and I got to try both which were both very good. I’m a hash brown girl myself and always ask for them to be crispy because I like them cooked well on outside and not too tough all the way thru. Besides no subbing half of my potatoes/home fries for hash browns (most places I find will not do this so As I said before 2 people shared so it worked out anyways. I appreciate their food, friendly and efficient service and their amazing location if you happen to be in SF on Market Street. I’m giving them a 5 star rating due to overall experience and quality of food and service and recommend this diner to anyone in SF for the day or locals to at least try it and support local family yummy restaurants in the city. I will be back soon next time I’m down that way in San Francisco! Yummy and Thank you Local Diner in SF! I have a feeling I’ll be seeing you very soon! Keep up the awesome cooking and service and I’ll keep referring friends and family to you as I was referred to you myself. See you soon and Happy New Years! 2023 will be a great year and I’ll be seeing you at least once a month while I’m in SF from time to time . Take Care and Thanks again for your amazing breakfasts and...
Read moreNever got a chance to try the food. Service was EXTREMELY slow, I had to move chairs on my own to a table that was otherwise empty to reserve the table, the area for ordering food is right next to racks upon racks of dirty dishes. The same guy who was taking the orders was also the guy who brought the food to the table, cleaned the tables, and removed dirty plates. He also spent an inordinate amount of time conversing with the group of 4 immediately in front of us. When we FINALLY were able to order, the restaurant was out of one type of potato, and one of the only other choices remaining (the tater tots) was an up charge of $0.75 but they would not offer those at the lower price because they had run out of most other potato choices. We placed our order, but my wife likes to drink her coffee piping hot and always asks to have it served with the food and not before so it doesn’t cool down while the food is being prepared. She ordered the coffee and before she could tell the guy to hold off until serving the food, he started pouring it. When she finally told him that she wanted to have the coffee later, he became upset (his spoken English is atrocious and it’s not a wonder he could not understand her) accusing us of being trouble makers. We left the place and walked a few steps and found a much better, cleaner place called Sam’s American Eatery and had a much better experience. Save yourself the aggravation and go straight to Sam’s.
Local Diner is absolutely the worst restaurant in our otherwise pleasant experiences eating out in...
Read moreIt's my 2nd time living in downtown San Francisco (in a shelter). The first time was back in 2016. I remembered this place from back then and how much I appreciated and loved it, and I'm so thankful they're still in business and I'm a regular customer there, just as I was before. Thankfully I get monthly ebt and I'm on the hot food program, so that means I get to eat there (or at least get nice hot coffee, which is a blessing in itself especially during these cold wet months). Every time I go in, I'm greeted with a smile and familiarity, and he already knows my number one thing is coffee lol. It's my absolute favorite restaurant out of all the restaurants in San Francisco that I've been, and I'd absolutely recommend it to anyone who likes a good size tasty breakfast and nice hot coffee. My personal favorite breakfasts are French Toast with Strawberries and Blueberries and Banana with maple syrup, and the Blueberry Pancakes with Scrambled Eggs, and I absolutely...
