From the moment you inadvertently drive past the poorly marked hotel with the partially illuminated “BEI” hotel sign, missing most of the bulbs, the bar is set for what to expect. On approach you’ll find two entrances, both with pairs of extraordinary heavy doors. As guests struggle to enter the lobby with bags, the bellman/security guard stands watch equidistant between both entrances, and simply watches guests as they struggle to get inside.
Once inside, the tiny front desk staffed almost exclusively by one person typically featured long lines and unanswered phones ringing incessantly in the background. The formerly grand lobby bar, now totally devoid of bottles, people or most anything else save two almost empty vending machines and a small tragic microwave, are adjacent to the lobby.
Attempting to move around the property includes its own special challenges as only one guest elevator functions for 400 guest rooms on all 14 floors. As an accommodation, the hotel opened a service elevator for guests to use… It was actually more convenient as the service elevator was accessible directly from the garage, and had no security protocols in place… no pesky key card required like in the guest elevators!
As you move to the guest rooms, what they call ‘minimalist’ design is really more aligned with I give up and do not care at all. Wires and equipment for the television, although neat, noticeably hung from the walls under a long narrow shelf that ran the span of the room.
The only furniture in the room were two well-used dreadful wooden chairs with a mutilated table to match and two tiny, unstable, bedside ‘tables’. The bedside ‘tables,’ composed of a shoddy metal frame with a single finished piece of wood, sat next to the mattress, on a ripped fabric platform, close to the floor. Ragged, torn, barely functioning windows treatments and dirty exterior windows only added to the allure.
There was no other useful furnishings or lighting in the room. The headboard, installed on the wall, had two tiny blinding spot lights and there was what appeared to be a fluorescent type bulb running along the ceiling above the television. A motion activated flush mount ceiling light in the entry, just outside the bathroom and closet could not be disabled which was so (not) convenient when getting up during the night to use bathroom. There was also a barn door style door for the bathroom; it was mounted several inches from the wall, so it offered almost no privacy.
If the hotel was not bad enough, the property was surrounded by a jarring amount of poverty. Every morning as we left the hotel, human excrement literally littered the sidewalks of the property immediately next door.
When we made the reservation directly from the Wyndham site, we were taken to a third party site for final booking, which seemed odd. When we inquired about leaving the property, we were informed that since we used a third party for booking, they could refund the $35.00 a day resort fee but nothing else.
Wyndham should be ashamed to call this one...
Read morei booked here bc the hotel i was trying to stay at before had dirty rooms, i was ensured over the phone it was very clean here. i check in, there is a booger on the main fitted sheet you sleep on in the bed along with multiple hairs and a stain. tired, i just requested new sheets and remade the bed myself. the carpet in the room was stained, and dust on the nightstands. there is no microwave for your food so good luck… only one small table for use in the room, besides that you have to sit on the bed. the lights suck, 2 are automatic so everytime you get up at night they automatically turn on bright and blind you, with no way of changing this. same with the bathroom. what happened to regular light switches? the toilet paper roll holder is set behind the toilet above the trash in an awkward manner so kinds uncomfortable to reach around for to be completely honest.
the phone receptionist was kind but did NOT alert me of the garage fee. i paid a non refundable room fee and was not told of the garage fee that i had to pay upon checking in. the front desk receptionist in the hotel was kind, but he kindof assumed i knew what i was supposed to do even though i said id never stayed here before and i never travel and this is all new to me. he gave my room key and number, and garage scanner pass. i asked if theres directions with room numbers from the garage he just said yes. i got into the garage and there’s no instructions. not any signs pointing you back to the lobby either if you’re already stressed, this sucks. i finally get back to the lobby and ask how to get to my room and he says it’s on my card. i said no only the room number is. he said no you’re on floor 10 i said how am i supposed to know that without him having told me or instructions. he said it’s the first 2 digits of the room number. but literally how am i supposed to know? i never travel as i told him, and i asked for instructions. i felt like he was treating me as if i was stupid. he also failed to tell me you need to hold the room key to a thing on the elevator to be able to push what floor you go to. never seen that before maybe others have but i don’t travel and never seen it.. someone in the elevator helped me when they saw me struggling.
also hard to sleep in when the maids are vacuuming the other rooms next door so early, the walls are paper thin.
anyways book here if you want a questionable clean, blinding lights in the middle of the night, and front desk who doesn’t give you proper instructions.
very unenjoyable stay for approximately $300. i will never be back
also smelled musty and old and the hallways smelled of cigarettes pretty badly. oh yeah forgot to mention, if you wanna watch tv, none of the channels are what they say they are. this place needs new management or money put into it or something. i didn’t even brush my teeth here because the sink water was like chalky white the entire...
Read moreThis hotel is absolutely amazing. Their customer service is absolutely barnone and second to none. They will go out of their way to go above and beyond what you have requested of them up to and including doing laundry for you as well as having their concierge finding a doctor for you because you forgot your medication at home. I would highly recommend this hotel it is kid-friendly in the sense that you can bring your children and leave them in sweet and that the family stays in or two connecting rooms so that the parents can have privacy when they want it and the kids can have the TV and watch a movie when they want to also I'm not sure if the pool or spa is open but if it is I'm sure it's absolutely a wonderful heavenly experience the staff at this hotel is just absolutely amazing it is night and day between the cheap motel hotels here in San Francisco and let me tell you I recently just stated in one of the cheap motels the sunset motel and they are have infestations of bugs of all kinds including bed bugs I got it such badly bitten and so many bites that one of them became infected and abscessed and I have a video of it of the pus coming out of it I uploaded all of those pictures and videos to a certain person who will be doing certain actions because also my room flooded from the drain of my sink not the faucet but the drain and the drain was flooding our room with piss and poop water it ruined all of our clothes 3 laptops and the tablet and my Chromebook and when I mentioned it to the two brothers that run this place they did not offer any consolation whatsoever and did not offer to even take us to a laundromat and pay to have her clothes cleaned they're totally liable and they will soon be hearing from my attorney. Do yourself a favor do not stay at 161 6th Street which is also the sunset hotel they advertise her night as $60 and then it immediately goes to 80 if you're lucky it stays at 80 if you're not lucky they'll go all the way up till 120 sometimes 160 I spoke to a woman who is paying over $200 a night there and for that kind of price you should have amenities in your room such as your own shower and bathroom instead of having to share showers and bathrooms also while we were staying there some dude next door in the next room died and the police and coroner and fire department and EMT had to come get him wrapped him up and sheets and put them in a body bag and has triggered myptsd so badly that I had to alert a certain person that mighty my PTSD is off-the-hook insane right now they will regret not replacing / at least cleaning our clothes and offering to fix our...
