I recently had the pleasure of visiting Red's Java House, an iconic establishment nestled on the picturesque waterfront of San Francisco. Known for its old-school charm and delicious comfort food, Red's Java House has been a local favorite since 1912, and after my visit, I can see why it has stood the test of time.
From the moment I walked through the door, I was transported to a bygone era. The interior of Red's is delightfully rustic, with weathered wooden walls adorned with vintage photographs, memorabilia, and nautical accents. The place exudes character and history, making it a unique spot to dine.
The menu at Red's Java House is simple but satisfying. They specialize in classic American fare, with a particular focus on burgers and sandwiches. I opted for their renowned Java Burger, and it did not disappoint. The patty was juicy and flavorful, perfectly complemented by the melted cheese and fresh toppings. It was a no-frills, hearty burger that hit the spot.
As I savored my burger, I couldn't help but appreciate the stunning view outside. Red's Java House is situated right on the waterfront, offering panoramic views of the San Francisco Bay, the Bay Bridge, and the city skyline. There are few places where you can enjoy such a delicious meal while soaking in such a picturesque setting.
What truly sets Red's apart is its undeniable charm and friendly atmosphere. The staff members were warm, welcoming, and full of stories about the establishment's rich history. It's clear that they take pride in their role as custodians of this iconic establishment, ensuring that each visitor has a memorable experience.
It's worth noting that Red's Java House is not a fancy, upscale eatery. It's a casual, unpretentious spot that captures the essence of old San Francisco. The prices are reasonable, and the portions are generous. This is the kind of place where you can kick back, enjoy a tasty meal, and revel in the nostalgia of a bygone era.
Whether you're a local looking for a dose of nostalgia or a tourist seeking an authentic San Francisco experience, Red's Java House is a must-visit destination. It's a true gem that showcases the city's history, charm, and culinary delights. So, grab a seat at the counter, indulge in a burger, and take in the breathtaking views at Red's Java House. Read moreThis is a San Francisco institution. No frills, not even remotely fancy, just good, delicious food and fast. Inside the walls are plastered with photos - of Red, of the Giants, of San Francisco through the years, of Anthony Bourdain's visit, and more. Plenty to look at while you eat. And if the weather is good, the back patio has amazing views of the Bay.
We ordered the cheeseburger, fish & chips, and onion rings. The burger was delicious, but I would say a double patty is required to get the bread to meat ratio right. I actually liked the sourdough roll instead of bun way they serve it. Fish was delicious. Two huge pieces. Onion rings were perfect. Fries were a little soggy, but probably because they were served under the fish. Not a light meal at all, but very tasty! I want to return and try the veggie burger and maybe the eggplant sandwich if it's on the menu (it looked to be a special).
Best of all, this is an affordable meal in a generally less affordable part of the city. The fish is one of the more expensive items on the menu and we over ordered and we still had delicious lunch for two and a view for...
Read moreI am in town for business and was recommended to come here from coworker. He also stated to get the Fish & Chips. I had the day off and meandered my behind down there. From the outside you would not want to go in, except for me, I like little places like this that don't have big fancy signs and fancy buildings. The fish was just a wonderful experience. It was crisp on the outside and tender in. It was not over, nor was it under done, it was the perfect piece of White Fish. The chips (french fries) were some of the best I have ever tasted. They were salted to perfection as well as cooked to the golden brown that some of us enjoy. Just as with the fish, the chips were crunchy on the outside, however, they were nice and moist on the inside. They were not soggy, but, they were just the perfect temperature.
If you get to San Francisco, or anywhere within 100 miles, drive, bike, walk, or moped yourself down to this nice little place on the pier and grab you some Fish & Chips. They give you plastic utensils, of which, I am sure offends some of you, but, if it makes you feel better, they have a...
