PERFECT + SERENITY We celebrated our 15th Wedding Anniversary in SF & I chose Hotel Griffon as our romantic getaway, being from HI. As my husband said, Hotel Griffon was perfect! We enjoyed this little boutique hotel. $25/day amenity fee included the use of YMCA next door, unlimited use of purified water (bring your hydroflask), Free WIFI, luggage storage, local calls, coffee, tea, and pastries made readily available every morning to begin our day. The staff were super friendly from check-in to check-out. Shortly after check in, a bucket of ice, champagne & a letter of appreciation for choosing to share our 15th Anniversary with them. This special touch made our stay even more special.
The view from the King room (w/view) is spectacular. A view of the SF Bay Bridge & Embarcadero after returning from long adventures was relaxing, soothing, and allowed you to reset for the next day. Such a beautiful view to awake to. The room is not your average-sized hotel room, but overall very cozy & sets "the vibe" I was trying to achieve for our anniversary trip. The bed + AC was super comfortable. The overall bathroom is small but enough to do what youʻre supposed to do in there. Also included in the room were shampoo, conditioner, body wash, lotion, hair dryer, and iron & an ironing board.
The area of this hotel is super safe. We never ran into any person at any time that made us feel unsafe. There were no homeless in sight or near the hotel, on the opposite side of the Embarcadero near the tourisy attractions but never near the hotel. Location of the hotel is on one end of the Embarcadero and all the must do visits when coming to SF for the 1st time is on the other end (Ex. Fishermanʻs Wharf, Pier 39, & Alcatraz tour). A nice long walk of the Embarcadero to get to the tourisy stuff but possible. On one of the days, we took a bike cab back to the hotel. A must do experience, it goes with the romantic vibe. Hotel Griffon is directly across of the Ferry Building, if needing to take the SF Ferry (to Vallejos for a Wine Tasting in Napa Valley with Platypus Wine Tours (another must). We also walked to STK located across the street for our anniversary dinner. Walking distance to many attractions, Uber eats for the late night meals (which were pleasantly quick with delivery, under 10 mins).
Hotel Griffon was perfect! The price with taxes, & amenity fee is definitely worth it for the coziness, & romantic vibes; Serenity sums up this boutique hotel well. We will definitely be back & I highly recommend staying here for any special occasions. They will definitely make your stay here extra special...
Read moreI booked this hotel through Priceline and had quite an interesting experience (in a good way!). Read On.
First off, shout out to Brandon at the front desk for helping me through the process of getting settled in. Upon entering, I was greeted by him and he was friendly, professional and very accommodating. Checking in was a breeze and I asked Brandon if there was a fridge. He said to check the room and if there wasn't one, I could borrow one by calling back down. Bet, as the kids say.
I went up to the room, checked out the layout. It seemed clean and recently updated. I turned on the TV and no signal. I called down to tell Brandon about the fridge and lack of TV source. He came up to check it out and gave me keys to another room and then said to check for a fridge there.
I went to the second room and upon opening the door, the smell of cigarette smoke wafted out. I called to inform Brandon that there was no fridge and about the smoke.
He came up, dragging a mini fridge behind and checked the room for leaks. I asked if it was coming from the outside but his guess was that it was sucked in through their AC system from the outside as the hotel is non-smoking. He apologized and said he would upgrade me for the inconvenience. I told him it was okay if he wanted to place me back in the original room sans TV.
He then upgraded me to a King room with a street view of Steuert. Really above and beyond service. I appreciated the upgrade and being able to borrow the mini fridge. The room was comfortable. I know some people complained about the size but I've stayed in a couple older hotels in SF and I gotta tell you this was, by far, the best. The amenities in each of the three rooms were different. You may or may not have a luggage rack, a sitting bench or a fridge in your room. There is a desk and the sinks are on the outside of the bathroom. The bathroom space is small but it appears the showers were recently tiled. The water pressure in my room was fantastic. I felt like I was being exfoliated while showering 🤣
The breakfast consisted of various pastries. Looking at them, I thought it was just going to be like any other hotel pastries. You may have seen some other reviews. They were actually very tasty.
Overall, the staff is excellent. You can't beat the room for the price and location. Would definitely stay here again. Thanks,...
Read moreI have been in nicer La Quinta and Super 8 motels! This is probably the most overpriced hotel I have ever been in. I tend to prefer luxury and boutique hotels, as they have been an illustration of "you get what you pay for" prior to this experience. The parking situation and valet were nightmares. My room was tiny, even though the woman who checked me in upgraded me to the "large" room because of my need for ADA access. I think the regular room could probably pass as a broom closet. The air conditioning in my room didn't work. It was uncomfortable enough to make me nauseous. The solution of a hotel with exorbitant prices? They provided a cheap, little fan. At $450/ night, I would liked to have had a room with fully functional equipment. No vending was available. I suppose I would have been able to buy water with a trip downstairs to their "water bar", had it been open. One of their big selling points was the view. I haven't any idea what my room may have overlooked due to privacy glass. The elevator is so small it was difficult to transport the luggage, and it was a rickety, old deathtrap. The bed itself wasn't great, but it wasn't too bad. I slept ok, though noise from within the hotel awakened me a few times. The only one within the hotel's purview being having housekeeping pick up the room service trays very early in the morning. (I will concede, however, that having them clean early does make for a more pleasant walk down the hallway. I didn't have to encounter scraps, stale food odors, or dirty dishes upon leaving my room.) Most of the other noises were from outside, due to the window being open to compensate for the broken cooling system. All of the employees I met were incredibly polite and did their best to be as helpful as possible. The poor man who could only offer me a fan looked embarrassed. The housekeeping staff had the room meticulously clean. The staff is this "boutique" hotel's only redeeming quality. Overall, as you've likely ascertained, I would recommend avoiding...
