Highlights:

The meticulously landscaped gardens, diverse plant life, and serene water features create a welcome escape from the hustle and bustle of the city below. Beautiful, lushly planted rooftop park in the middle of downtown SF. Super cool walking 50 feet in the air with all the skyscrapers around you. My new favorite place in San Francisco!

There are several ways up to the park; there are a total of five elevator banks in the transit center that provide access, plus one set of escalators and the public elevators on the side of the Salesforce Tower. The five elevators in the transit center are located at Beale, Fremont, and 1st Streets, then one between 1st and 2nd and one all the way at the west end of the transit center, near 2nd Street.

On the west (2nd Street) side there are succulent gardens and an “amphitheater” (really just a small lawn with a stage). In the middle are the central lawn, kids’ play area and main plaza, with games and arts and crafts carts. Finally, on the east (Beale Street) side there are wetland gardens and shaded seating areas.

The south side offers views of the new cable-stayed bus bridge (it’s fun watching buses pull in and out of the transit center one level below!), and the north side pathway features a fountain that responds to buses’ movements.

Overall, the designers and landscapers did a fantastic job with this park. Lots of small touches, like colorful chairs and wire cages around the elevator shafts for vines to attach themselves to as he grow, are indicative of how much thought they put into it.

If you live or work downtown or are visiting, you should...
