Note that I don’t usually write reviews, but I enjoyed so much that I just had to support this Restaraunt.
I have been to almost all of the Indian restaurants in San Rafael and this has been the best experience!
The buffet was reasonably priced, was frequently replenished with freshly made dishes and each dish tasted like you were in someone’s home and they made the food just for you! Each dish was made with a lot of care and skill. All of the dishes were well balanced. None of the dishes had too much spice or too much cream etc. The only note I would make is that I wish the food was a bit hotter, but it was definitely was hotter than a lot of other buffets that I have eaten.
The service was great and very warm as well.
The highlight was the best Indian rice pudding I have ever had! The rice pudding was chilled and refreshingly cold, not too sweet, not too milky, had whole pieces of cashews and almonds and pieces of fruit (none of which was too much).
Don’t forget to enjoy the chai tea that is included as well!
This will be my go to Indian buffet from now on. It was a great experience. I...
Read moreI live on Indian food and Taj is NOT "phoning it in" and offering "creme-filled Indian dishes for non-Indians." You can still order w/o any peppery fire, but no matter what, the flavor remains present. You'll taste every spice in their balanced mix and the freshness rises to the top.
There are things on their menu not usually found in other Indian menus, too, so ou can even explore! I'll be back often. I've got my heart set on a "Lamb Sank" (not a typo) I saw delivered to another table and I'm sold.
Note that there are plenty of tables here and it's currently uncrowded. It's clean, bright and comfortable while unpretentious, including a total lack of white tablecloths. The service is not at all intrusive yet they keep an eye on anticipating your needs from the shiny new counter. I give the atmosphere 4/5 simply because there's little background noise. I don't want Indian music (or any, frankly) but some kind of bubbling "environmental sound" murmur (for example) would turn...
Read moreFinally giving this new(ish) spot in the neighborhood now that they have some time to settle in. Went with a Chicken Tikka Masala, Rice and some Garlic Naan. Instead of my usual go to Mango Lassi I went with a Salted Lassi. The Salted Lassi was nice and a good balance to the Masala (just know it’s a salted plain yogurt drink and not sweet like a Mango Lassi is). Overall impressions of the food and experience is decent. Great Masala Sauce, but unfortunately the chicken was a bit dry and chewy on the day I had it. The Garlic Naan was great and very tasty with the sauce. Value was ok, but note you have to pay $4 for rice to go with a $16 entree as rice is not included with the entree.. All in all it was a bit of a pricy lunch for one at $32 before tip. My suggestion is to go with a group to share different dishes family style. Decor is pretty basic, but very clean and nice...
