Nice pastries and soups, with clearly labeled prices. Highly recommend the piroshkis.
When you enter this bakery, you'll see a variety of delicious foods in the glass cases. They have soups, including borscht, in big containers that you can buy for around $7. Their piroshkis are under $4 and are pretty big. I recommend getting a beef and cheese piroshki if they're available. In my experience, they run out of them in the morning or early afternoon. Also, the cheese piroshkis aren't as good as the other varieties. They don't skimp on the fillings, so you get your money's worth. Their pastries look good, but I've seen nicer pastries around the city for similar prices, around $5. They are beautiful, but they aren't actually that intricate. Still, if I wanted a pastry and I saw theirs, I would definitely buy one.
Prices have definitely gone up, but the foods are just as good. You can get a cake here for a similar price as from a grocery store, but this is an actual bakery. There is a restroom for customers. If you would like a drink, they have fresh coffee, bagged tea that can be brewed, and bottle drinks in a refrigerator.
Overall, I recommend stopping by if you're in the mood for some Russian or Georgian foods. Everything tastes good and doesn't cost as much as some other places. I appreciate that the prices are very clearly labeled. There is some seating available, but they put the chairs up before...

We have been coming here since day one. We always lived in the Tahoe region and we would drive with the kids to pick up Piroshki’s and then go have a picnic in Golden Gate Park.
As the years passed, we would still make our way here. Even as we peddled our bikes down the entire PCH from Oregon to Mexico - took a detour just for these amazing POTATO piroshki’s.
Later years we moved to Ventura. We still visited when possible.
And now…in California for our son’s wedding in Tahoe Region and we came all the way from Spain! Guess where we bought our lunch today to eat in Golden Gate Park!
Yep at the best Russian bakery on the planet.
The potato piroshki is my favorite but also the mushroom & egg or the cabbage. They also have beef and a beef & cheese plus also a plain cheese.
After almost 30 years in continuous business, they still keep prices at only $3.85 per piece.
They also have fresh baked bread each day plus a large variety of yummy pastries.
Definitely recommend and of course we...
Read moreComrade, do you want piroshki?
OH DO I EVER! Can I have 10? I have enough ration coupons for them.
Comrade, did you find parking?
YES! And only 19 blocks away
Comrade, how many car windows did you still have when you got back to car?
4 out of 6! A truly successful San Francisco parking experience!
All jokes aside, if you can get parking, and if you get can get parking where your windows aren't going to get smashed in, you totally need to go.
Do note, they come fresh out of the fryer every 10 to 15 minutes. So maybe just sort of hang around and look like you didn't hear asking to take your order until you see them taking out a new tray.
The Soviet era Decor is amazing. It looks like one of those fake stores showing the Glorious achievements of socialism in some Soviet era magazine. Look at ll the canned mackerel!
