Zona Rosa Mexican Grill — Restaurant in San Francisco

So i did take out. Chile verde, BIG MISTAKE. I dined there many moons ago and had a mediocre experience, but wanted to give it a second chance. It was worse. The Chile verde was chicken, so, well ok, but assumed that it was going to be pork. I don't know any place in town that doesn't defer to pork and additionally mention that it's chicken, but not the end of the world. I love refried beans, but this was like old, reused/reheated from last week. The beans were not creamy and flavourful, rather meally and dry. The melted cheese was half hard, like plastic, the other half was chewy, not melty, stringy and soft at all. The chicken in the verde was dry and seemed again old/leftover from the previous week. So dry, and it tasted like they just threw chicken in sauce versus steeped/braised in green goodness. The verde itself was simplistic in the sense that there was only a bright, acidic spice/heat note, no salt or umami from onion/garlic, just a jalapeño note. Will not go back unless I am starving. Might try something else to see if they can execute carne asada, or burrito, but not running there soon. Very...

Went here in passing during happy hour. When I was looking at the sign to see what the happy hour was, Alex took it upon himself to invite me in, instantly making me feel welcomed. He not omly walked me through what the happy hour consisted of, but he also gave his opinion on what his favorite is and was extremely nice. He also takes time, effort and hard work to make sure customers are happy and they feel safe. Alex remembers face and names. The food was great, being that I got one carnitas taco, it was actually pretty great for what it cost (2.50 for happy hour rate). The margarita was 6$ and was definetly worth the price, tasted good but definetly had the right ammount of liquor in it. Nothing about here was dissapointing or offputting. Will be coming back for the Mon-Sun 10am-2pm...

Food was OK. Overly salted carnitas, OK beans. Tasted like they dumped the Morton salt in the pot. Cook may have hypogeusia cause holy! I tried to save it with extra lime, but just couldn't finish it.

The food needs some work, but I'll come back in a few months since they are newish. I have faith...
