This place is known for having alcoholic boba drinks. Sadly, the boba with alcohol is only offered certain days. It use to be just weekends, it is now extended to Thurs-Sat I believe, but just call ahead so you won't be disappointed. Also, every weekday they have a special. I went on a Monday and they had a CA Roll if you order over $30.
Our waiter and waitress seemed nervous at first and it was a bit awkward because this was our first time here. We were disappointed a finding out we couldn't get alcohol-boba drinks and then they were also out of oysters! Agh!! We want our raw seafood, otherwise why go to a sushi joint?
Anyways, being super hungry I just ordered a few yakitori. We had the pork belly, squid, quail egg, and chicken hearts to start with. All of which were cooked very well. My friend was like why is this squid so soft? I thought it should be chewy! I told her that no, that squid is chewy if its overcooked, but this were perfectly grilled. Just FYI Yakitori on Wednesdays are $1.50 each! I want to come back and eat grilled meats to my hearts content.
The sashimi/sushi here is average. I base this on the freshness and tastiness of the Ikura. I know, maybe thats not fair, but if its fresh I think other things are also. Whatever, don't tell me how to think! My ikura was bright and not wrinkly, not too salty, not too much rice, and did not taste too fishy.
We ordered sashimi plate for 2 people with 3 pieces of salmon, tuna, a white fish rolled around some sprouts, and what I believe was 3 pieces of yellow tail. It was plated very well and everything was fresh tasting. We had a piece of fatty salmon at the end and that was also delightful.
At the end of our meal the waiter that kept coming around was very nice and we asked if we could get ice cream for checking in on a app. He said yes, but they ran out of green tea. I was going to be annoyed again with this, but he saved the day offering other flavors with chocolate syrup and a cookie. That is the way to make me happy after running out of a 3rd item! (Even if its free...) So my friend and I had our dessert and then the owner came out and offered us each (and all the customers) pieces of lotus seed moon cake because it was the Moon Festival that week. What a lovely end of my sushi craving...
Read moreCame here on Sunday night and was surprised to find it really busy! Initially we were seated at a table with bar stools before moving to a booth. Most people come for the alcoholic boba, but I was there for the sushi and I was starving!
My friends and I split the spicy tuna pizza app, and then hungry me ordered the spicy tuna roll, monkey brains, and shrimp tempura roll. It was a LOT of food, but I ended up paying a little less than $30. Not bad at all!
Spicy tuna rice pizza: Delish. I am a huge fan of spicy tuna with crispy rice, and the 'pizza' was no exception.
Spicy tuna roll: Hard to mess up, but the tuna was fresh. The roll fell apart a bit as I was grabbing pieces with chopsticks, but that's really my only complaint.
Monkey brains: this was half an avocado with crabmeat and tempura. It came out last so I was a bit full, but honestly I think it needed a tad more seasoning. The slight blandness of the avocado overwhelmed the crab a bit.
Shrimp tempura: One can never go wrong with deep fried shrimp in a roll right? 'Nuff said.
Service was hit and miss. The food generally came out quickly enough, but it was hard to get water refills and the waitress' attention.
Overall, good sushi place. I don't go to San Gabriel often, but would definitely eat here again if I were...
Read moreDON'T COME HERE. I would give them a Zero but unfortunately there's no other option.
We came here because we were hungry. We got a bottle of wine we paid $30 when at the market it's $4. Yes, I googled because I was curious. Gosh!!! the bill came out to $100. Portions are super but super small. $5 for a 1in of piece of beef. We got tired of waiting so we decided to get the bill. I told the lady we didn't want the soups any more we just wanted the bill. She said we had to pay for the soup because they were ready. So we paid the bill. While we paid the soups weren't ready. We still waited for the soups and not ready. We headed out with out the soups and with out our bottle of wine because as we were heading out the waitress said that we couldn't take out wine. Come on, we paid 6x more for that bottle of wine and we can't take it home. I want a refund for the soups and the...
