Amato's Cheese Steaks — Restaurant in San Jose

Worst customer service i have ever recieved as well i went in dad suggested after seeing ad in the metro the girl working at the cash register took my dads order a mushroom ssteak and onion sandwich hot she asked if we want unions duh it comes with it then made three other orders first instead of starting on mine since i was next in line three people got there sandwiches hot n fast with in 15 20 min waited 45 for mine she left the meat sitting on the grill forever it got chewey and wasnt well cooked then i went over to ask another guy had to finish my order because she left it on the grill and walked to the back for 15 total mins.??? I asked my dad weres it at a guy had to apologize and say hed finish making my sandwich because she failed to do so them my dad asked weres it at the girl.rudley responded dont come up here well call you when its ready the guy was already bagging it up she set it in my face i said is this mine she said yes no have a nice day sorry bout the inconvinience and then i asked her name to complaine she said i caint give that out wright now i said can i get the managers name she said we caint give that infirmation out wright now then i said give me a card so i can call back she tryed to give ne a plastic reusable menu i wasnt taking it or she might to pull some skeem about how i stole it .i asked for an application just to let her know i was very serious about getting incontact with the manager she pretended to look and refused to give me one even though they were plainly clearly being shuffeled betwen her fingers under the cash register because i saw her attemp to pull one out then slightly put it wright back claiming she couldnt find any ???? so i took an order slip and wrote down the number on it so she knew i ment buissness and hopeful not treat any other customers this way all day but by the looks of her enviorment and stuck up ness that wasnt going to stop so i left befor my bf came in he looked like he realy didnt want to be there anymore because of how horrible they were acting twords me in my family.so sad i will never go back there ever again in my life and im also leaving a bad yelp review these guys arent ruining anybody elses sunday like they did mine i was also 4 m pregnate and didnt need that kind of uglyness twords my pregnancy either so sad worst service ever just avoid sandwich wasnt even hot was cold soggy and flavorless blan not that...

WHY I'M WRITING THIS: I wanted my first review to be a great place that's a real treat that many people may not know about. So I decided on Amato's - this place is one of my all-time favorite dives in the Bay Area!

THE FOOD: Located on the corner of what could be considered a half of a strip of a gray strip mall, Amato's sandwiches are a work of art. Cheap art. One 6" (about $7) can feed two full-grown people. I always order the cheese steak hoagie which comes with melted white american cheese, sauteed onions, lettuce, tomatoes, and sprinkled with italian spices. Peppers on the side. The peppers are sweet and mild and really compliment the hearty, cheesy sandwich. I also really like their onion rings, but if you really want an artery-clogging meal, order the gooey good cheesy fries. I'd stay away from the chicken sandwiches though - come here for the cheesesteaks! You can eat there (not a good place for big parties though, I'd say max. 4) or get it to-go.

Note, this place is a DIVE. I think it's got character though. Just come for the food....

I wasn't paying attention the first time I walked in, I was thinking it was a pizza place. "Nope", the guy behind the counter said, adding, "we make the best cheese steak sandwiches". I lived in Philly for a few years, and I know my way around a good steak sandwich, so I said, "Sure, 'one, whiz, with'". I got a funny look, and then the guy handed me a menu. OK, I thought to myself, I'm in Northern California after all, and I can't expect them to know what that means. So, I looked at the menu, and thought the prices were a bit high, and then I saw the cook working the grill. He knew what he was doing, so I ordered a half cheese steak sandwich, with "the works". It took a while, they don't rush, but they sure don't disappoint either. The sandwich tasted great. It's a nice touch that they have jars of peppers on the counter for customers to help themselves, just like back...
