When I was living in San Jose, this place was my favorite lunch place! I was always sad that it wasn't opened on weekends because I could only go if I didn't go into the office that day. Probably a good thing I didn't work close by, or I would have definitely gone there all the time!
I used to get the #6 - roast beef and turkey. Usually the sandwiches come with Swiss cheese, but they have other cheeses if you request it (I usually go for provolone or pepper jack).
Service there is pretty efficient, which I love. I went there often enough that the owner recognized me. Most of the sandwich makers are pretty good, though I definitely had my favorites (some are a little better at distributing the meat than others). The bread there is made in house and tastes so good! Normally I don't like sourdough because, as the name suggests, it's usually sour. However, the bread here doesn't have that strong sour flavor that I usually avoid! Now that I live and work too far away, I definitely miss this place!
Fair warning: this place gets busy! If you go anytime between 11:30 - 12:30, expect to not get a table and to see a line well...
Read moreWow, this place is consistent with high quality of overall product, and the ingredients like the corn-fed-canadian-ham, thin sliced pastrami, sourdough bread, freshly sliced tomatoes. I have tried almost everything on the menu and have never been disappointed, not ever. They have their system of doing things which works for them; it allows them to get through orders quickly, it may seem strange to others, but it's how they can consistently keep the quality up. Simple things like respecting it's a Mom & Pop business and helping to keep the door closed to conserve A/C. I've always been met with prompt & eager attention to my order whenever I'm next in line. Everyone is friendly, ordering is fast and easy. Sure prices have crept up over the years, but so has their rent, and the cost of the highest quality ingredients they use; that being said, over the years, their quality has never gone down. I will continue to keep coming back and supporting California Sourdough because they have always kept the same quality day-in-day-out, year-after-year. This fact alone, earns this establishment a...

My usual is #14 (turkey and pastrami) with spicy mustard and everything on it; and I alwasy order 2 sandwitches (one for me and hubby).
Today, I left the place confused and upset because I was accused of ordering one sandwich and paid for one, but leaving with 2 sandwiches.
Good thing the sandwich maker backed me up saying "look you put down 2 order of #14." then I said "I paid $30". Owners response "oh really? are you sure?"
The owner never apologized but just stood there as I grabbed my order from her hands. Also, she asked me if I was Philippino while I wait for my food.... I found this somewhat offensive because I am not.
Glad some of the sandwich makers are still working there. Pls know that food is stil great. Just make sure to remembe what you ordered and how...
