Starbird Chicken — Restaurant in San Jose

I keep coming back here and I don't know why. I mean, its not a bad place, but its by no means the best fried chicken in the bay area as they like to advertise. In fact, I think its the lack of good fried chicken that brings me back here. Sorry Starbird. I'm only one opinion of many so take it for what its worth.

Food: I ordered the Nashville hot chicken sandwich. This is my second time trying it and my opinion of the sandwich remains the same. Half the bread came out soggy and the chicken was dripping in red oil. I like the spice of the chicken and the flavor overall was good. What turns me off about the chicken however, is that it was a bit rubbery. The texture of the chicken was just a bit off and I'm not sure why (perhaps the chicken is too thin and they need to use a bigger piece of meat).

Soda: I had a ginger beer craft soda. Was yummy and I'd get it again next time... because despite my review... there is always a next time.

Fries: They serve fries that are medium thickness. Probably a quarter inch thickness. I like the seasoning that they use and its not overwhelming (meaning they don't overdo the seasoning). Slightly sweet, mostly salty, but not too salty. My only critique here, and I know its a weird one, is that their fries are a bit on the dry side. No idea how to solve this one or if its even a legitimate critique. Does this mean my credibility is gone because I'm writing about dry french fries?

On a side note, I'm not sure why so many people don't know how to spell my name. :(...

TLDR: Food just average. Zero effort. Zero logic employees.

I don't get this place. Food is ok but why does it cost this much for a simple chicken sandwich? $7.50 for a small sandwich. No drink. No fries. I seriously feel like I'm missing something.

Just opened so service was pretty bad and no one knew what they were doing. They forgot to give us part of our meal. I understand that for new employees it takes time but there seemed to be no logic to there system. They made the person in front of us wait 5 minutes before they took their order. For apparently no reason other than to catch up on their orders. Cashier literally just stood there for 5 minutes looking at the order screen. You can't just take their order so they can sit down and wait?

Won't be going back. If the food was worth the price id go back to see if their service improved but it's just not worth it when chick-fil-a exists. At least chick-fil-a doesn't charge you that much more for a spicy chicken sandwich.

Their spicy chicken is literally just a regular chicken sandwich with a line of sriracha sauce on top. Zero effort. Sorry, the more I type about this place the more I dislike it.

Paper straws but they have plastic cups and lids. What? Nothing makes sense about this place. I am honestly curious who would go here over the Habbit burger place right next to it. Hell, Habbit makes a better chicken...

Listen I LOVE Starbird Chicken. Its the only fast food place that has Gluten Free fried chicken AND its tasty. Chicken is always crispy yet juicy. I've been to two other locations, the food is consistently good. However, at this location 9 out 10 times my order is faulty. I've been going to this specific location for over a year, Pre-covid, and they are consistently incorrect. Generally, it is just an incorrect sauce, which isn't the worst thing but still soo disappointing. During covid, I started exploring more than the basic, but delicious, tenders and fries, and the mistakes are still there. Today I ordered a salad that had avocado/guac and there was a whole avocado pit in here! ??? Last time, I paid for a 10 piece chicken wing order. Got home and there were only 8. Phoned the manager on duty and requested I get refunded the wings I did not receive. Didn't correctly get done, so I had to drop by later in week. Before that I was given a bleu cheese sauce (hate bleu cheese) when I ordered greek yogurt ranch. You'd think by now I'd learn to check my order before I got home, but I still hold out hope they won't let me down. Again. Didn't mean to be really long, and it's still my favorite place but seriously, when they get something wrong EvERYTIME.... the review...
