Order: Guava paloma (drink), Quesabirria, Enchiladas En Mole Oaxaqueno Birthday Comp Corn Creme Brulee dessert Reservations are highly recommended. We were seated quickly because we arrived right as they opened for dinner. Within 30 minutes, the restaurant was packed. ***to keep in mind: rooftop outdoor dining is beautiful on a nice day, BUT the menu is very limited. Rooftop dining does NOT offer the full menu. So, if you insist on eating on the rooftop, be aware that menu options are different. To enjoy the full menu, sit downstairs in the indoor or outdoor seating. We had a very delicious dinner to celebrate 2 birthdays. Mine and a friend. We asked the staff for recommendations and we were not disappointed. The Quesabirria is made with LAMB, which is not the typical meat of goat or beef. I absolutely enjoyed it. My 1 and ONLY complaint is the consume. Broth, that is served as an Au gu. It was more greasy than brothy. The flavor was nice, but the greasy didn't allow me to fully enjoy the dipping. The Enchiladas were super mild. Take it from someone who does not care for spicy. The brown chocolaty moles are the ones I personally prefer, so it was just right. The guava paloma was refreshing and surprisingly smooth. Being that we were celebrating 2 birthdays, we were given a complimentary dessert. There was something intriguing about trying the corn creme brulee. Wow! I wanted several more!!! Interesting creation, but corn and sugar are common in Latin cooking. So, it wasn't odd but definitely different. When I went to the restroom, I noticed a few things and informed the staff. By the time my friend went after me, it was all taken care of. It is very much appreciated that it was handled rather quickly. The staff were very attentive and friendly even though it was a busy night for a weekday. As a 1st time guest, I was impressed and looking forward to visiting again to try different menu options. Disclaimer: cupcakes are not part of their menu. We brought our own dessert but couldn't resist the complimentary one restaurant provided.

After a lovely afternoon enjoying the Willow Glen Spring Wine Walk in San Jose, CA (see separate review under Willow Glen Downtown), my wife and I stopped for a bite to eat at Copita Tequileria y Comida, located at the corner of Lincoln Avenue and Willow Street. The restaurant has the flair of a traditional Mexican eatery, with a slightly more contemporary twist. It features a formal dining area, a good-sized bar, outdoor seating, and a second-story rooftop lounge. Fortunately, we arrived before the rest of the “wine walkers,” so we were seated promptly. Since we had just wrapped up the wine walk (with a lot of great wine tasting), we opted for water only. To start, we ordered two appetizers: Chips & Two Salsas and the Crispy Calamari. The chips and salsas arrived first. The two salsas were guajillo (red) and tomatillo (green). Both salsas had good flavor, but we found the chips a bit too greasy for our liking. It’s unclear whether this is the standard preparation or just an oilier batch than usual. The Crispy Calamari followed about five minutes later. Served as traditional rings and tentacles, it came with a macha aioli dipping sauce. These were very good—crispy and flavorful. For our entrees, my wife ordered the Chicken Tinga tacos, while I went with the Flautas. Tacos at Copita come in a choice of two or four; she opted for two. The tacos featured braised chicken breast with chipotle, tomatoes, onions, avocado, cilantro, and crema. My flautas—filled with carnitas and topped with onions, cabbage, tomatillo salsa, avocado, crema, and cotija—were well-presented. While I appreciated the texture and presentation, I felt the dish was missing a bit of flavor. I’d describe it as good, but a little on the bland side. Overall, the food has a California flair—fresh, clean, and visually appealing. The service was attentive without being intrusive. The food menu is somewhat limited, and I got the impression that the restaurant leans more toward a lively, party-centric atmosphere, particularly in the evenings.

Ambience - sat in the main hall. It was cavernous with a big TV at one end, and a bar on the side. Felt a bit sparse and airy, not in a good way - more like a warehouse, not very intimate. Booth felt very diner quality. There is also a small patio, but it is exposed to traffic noise. Rooftop looked nice, but only opens for dinner, no reservations. Service - nice, friendly server. Refilled water promptly. Food and drink orders came reasonably quickly. They comped us a dessert because they ran out of the one we ordered. Drinks - Ordered Copita Margarita (came with branded ice!), Mayahuel Jalapeno Margarita (lacked kick - chili salt on the rim would've been nice), Mangonada (nice looking and decent taste), Guava Paloma. All drinks felt a bit on the light & sweeter side. Food - they brought out chips & salsa that we did not order, and then charged $5.50 for that (unnecessary). Truffle Empanadas tasted good, but felt heavy (a recurring theme). Brussel Sprouts one-upped them, with even better taste but even heavier feel! Our server recommended the Coconut Ceviche, but it was not that great - felt quite bland. Tacos (Trompo, Cod) tasted good, but disappointed that cod was fried and even the pork felt too crunchy. Would've liked them to be more juicy & delicate. The tortilla felt fresh but too thick & doughy, which again makes every dish feel heavy. Shrimp enchiladas had an awesome sauce, but the filling was otherwise uninspired. Quesabirria was a letdown - the lamb lacked flavor and the bread was way too thick. Desserts - Churros and Creme Brulee were both a bit meh, not worth the calories! All in all, the experience felt sub-par given the hype around this new place. It has potential, but the interiors have to be spruced up and made more intimate, the drinks a bit less sweet, the tortillas a bit thinner, the food a bit lighter and the desserts a lot better.

The place is beautifully decorated. The colors are bold and put you in the mood for celebrating. We arrived (party of 6), without a reservation, but were told we could put our names down. We did that. But we were also told we could go upstairs to the patio area subject they don't have any seating while your wait. Our party moved upstairs, we figured we would sit in the area with the communal sofas and fire pits, maybe order a drink or two while we waited for our table. As soon as we got there, a nice host asked us if we wanted to sit, he could pull two tables together for us and did that quickly. Shortly after, we received a text that our table downstairs was ready, the notification came in at under the hour we were told. Nice But we decided to stay in the second floor. The menu does differ slightly from the one downstairs, so just be aware. The server came, took our drink order and was very nice ppl personable. The order took a while to get to us but it was okay. I ordered the mangonada and it was delicious. We were told that it was among the sweeter cocktails but it wasn't that sweet to be. It's served with a salted rim with something similar to Tajin and a candied dry mango. Delicious and refreshing! I ordered the Trompo and carne asada tacos but received only Trompos. I told our server and he fixed it on the tab at the end. My daughter ordered her tacos with onions and cilantro in the side but they came out on the tacos, it looks like another server picked up the wrong plate for her. But no big deal, she eventually received her correct order. The Trompos we're just okay, slightly over cooked and the meat didn't have enough seasoning for me. The price was 13 for two tacos or 22 for four of the same. That's a pricey so, so taco to me. Another member of my party did receive the carne asada tacos they ordered and said they were good. We also had the guacamole and chips, the guacamole again lacked flavor, the menu says it came with serrano chile but I couldn't taste it. It looked like mashed up avocados in a bowl with chips on the side. The chips were lightly salted and tasted amazing. They were definitely the highlight! Another member of my party had the 24 hour carnitas and he liked them but didn't think he would order them again. Overall, the service was good, no complaints there. The food was pricey and just okay. Maybe I would good back just for the drinks and chips. If you are looking to get out and try a new place, I say try it but don't be surprised if the food is not what your used to in terms of good Mexican cuisine. Go there first, then hit up one of your fav tacos...

I never write negative reviews but my experience here just now was ridiculous. I came here to meet a friend for lunch. She's super allergic to avocado so when she ordered the steak salad (which did not list avocados in the ingredients list) she just asked to make sure saying "sorry to be a bother but I'm super allergic to avocado. There's no avocado in this salad right?" Our server said "no" so she ordered it. The food came out in weird order, which is not a big deal but I got my pork belly tacos first, then about 3 - 4 minutes later the calamari I ordered then there was a good amount of time before her salad came out. The problem was there was sliced avocado on the top. She was super polite to our server and reiterated "oh...I'm super allergic to avocado..." Our server mumbled something like "you should have ordered it without.." So I said "She specifically asked you if there was avocado in it before she ordered and you said 'no.'" He kind of huffed and took the plate away only to bring it back ~3 minutes later. It was clear they had just scraped off the avocado but with serious allergies that doesn't work. Especially since there were still chunks of avocado on the salad. My friend was still very nice about it and tried to explain that her throat, literally, closes up if she eats avocado. Our server got frustrated when she asked if they could remake the salad and huffed off again. It took a very long time to come back with a new salad and my friend spent the rest of lunch feeling guilty like she was in the wrong. From then on our server pretty much ghosted us (even though he was sort of checking on tables right next to us). After both of us were long finished it was still a long wait for him to come over and ask if we wanted anything else. We politely asked for the check. At no point did he ever say "sorry" or maybe let us know the kitchen staff was slammed or something. Like I've said I never leave negative reviews because I know serving is an incredibly hard job and everyone has off days but this is not just a messed up order or long wait times. What if my friend had just trusted him the first time he brought the salad back with avocado still in it? That's a trip to the ER... It's a real bummer because the food was good. The experience was so bad I don't know if I'd give them a second chance (and I usually always just chalk up a bad experience as something to get over right away and give the servers/place the benefit...
