I used to eat at the Dona Maria that used to be on Homestead in Santa Clara, but it closed down some time ago...That being said, I wanted to try this location. It's a small restaurant in a strip mall... decor was really cute. 1 bathroom for customer use. It was clean. Chips and salsa were like $2.25, maybe more, as I don't quite remember, but I was not expecting that and I thought it was quite expensive...I was told "NO Refills on chips, but that I can buy another basket for the same price." Ordered 2 different burritos. My mom and I cut the burritos in half so we could each try the "Breakfast burrito" and the "Chile Verde burrito" So, the menu stated fried potatoes can be added for 95 cents... so I asked for them in my burrito... The flour tortilla was filled with a lot of cooked pinto beans (I prefer refried beans) but was not asked my preference when ordering. Some small pieces of ham, diced potatoes, onion and some overcooked egg was also in the burrito. It was all very bland, not even my added salt, pepper and HOT sauce could flavor it up. As for the Chile Verde burrito... again came with lots of pinto beans, some rice and some pork meat in green sauce. Again, the rice and beans were overwhelming compared to the Chile Verde. The chile verde itself did have a spicy but good undertone to it. The meat chunks were rather small and sparse in the burrito. Overall, we both liked the Chile Verde burrito better than the Breakfast Burrito. As for service... it was basic. The lady took our order. With good time, the food came out to us. Had to ask for water refills twice. She didn't really talk so experience was not inviting. When the bill came, I was charged $1.25 to put very little potatoes in the breakfast burrito... it said 95 cents... hmm. Didn't like that. Menu prices should be accurate. Oh well... We will not be returning to this location... Food, service and prices ... just...

The best menudo around! Believe me as we've tried every restaurant around. They serve Menudo every day, which is perfect for me. This restaurant also have 3 restaurants. The one in South San Jose (Blossom Hill Road and Snell) I don't recommend. The place wasn't busy on a Friday night. We were told to sit where ever we wanted. We waited 20 mins for the menu, 10 mins on top of that for our beverages. 15 mins later our orders were taken. It took another 20 mins to get our food, and after eating we placed an order to go. That order arrived in 15 mins. I'm so glad we weren't in any hurry. The food mediocre at best, very disappointed. The restaurant on S. Bascom near Hwy 85 is like going home to mom's! The menudo here is like my mom's! The food is great and my 8 & 11 yr old grandkids ask to go there for lunch or dinner! Atmosphere is relaxes, one big dining room with booths and mostly tables. Lots of tables usually filled. Short wait time for order, friendly and efficient staff. Children welcomed. A simply place to drop-in for...

Good food but the place needs new management. Today i saw how a Hispanic family (mother and 2 little girls) entered and tried to order food to be consumed in the premisses. Sadly the lady did not offer them a seat or the usual chips/salsa/water that other customers were being offered. When the family mother came to the counter and asked for chips and salsa the lady sated that that will be extra charge. Something not specified to the rest of the customers (all of them white) on top of that the mother of two asked for glass with ice but was not given until she asked again when the food was served…… have been a long time customer of this place and had seen this before always showing some sort of preference for certain types of customers but today was specially bad. They have lost me as...

Been visiting Dona Maria for a few years. It is not the best Tex-Mex around but is better than 80% of the Mexican restaurants in the area. I would recommend the Chili Verde. Spicy but not over the top hot. The rest of the menu is good to very good. Portions are on the large side. Prices are in line with the area. I have noticed that pricing for all restaurants are rising and Dona Maria is no exception. Service is spotty. Sometimes it is fantastic and others, down right terrible. I guess that the spotty service is why it is not a 5star. Another visit on 5/7/22. They have remodeled the interior. It is now bright and shiny. The food is still very good. Prices have risen to the new normal of the South Bay Area.

The food has no taste. I got the machaca with rice and beans. The rice was hard, no flavor or salt. The beans no salt. The tomatoes in the machaca taste like refrigerator and rotting wasn't good. My husband got the chilaqiles with chicken it taste like the sauce was just poured over no flavor wasn't good. Food was not good for the price too expensive. Lucy was our waiter she was nice and polite but when we told her about the food, she just said "really" that was it and gave us our bill. No sorry our food wasn't good or anything or can we replace anything its ok won't be going back. I don't recommend anything on the menu. Don't go here I got sick.
