I’m traumatized. My family and I had an evening of calling the police and having to switch hotels because a hotel manager left everything unattended and open for an hour. It was chaos we were going through the halls screaming hello, and there was no hotel staff. The hotel was empty and three of us were trying to get help. We were scared that something happened because drawers were left open, there were master keys on the counter and lunch boxes and purses left behind. We were worried about someone’s safety and of our own. We were in shock when the hotel manager came out of one of the rooms right by the lobby and said “I was checking the rooms” He lied about it. We were standing in the lobby for an hour plus after he came out and I have proof. His face turned red and he was guilty because he knew he messed up, he had a woman in his room and wasn’t expecting to get caught. This is a horrible, unsafe hotel and multiple people were trying to check in. Another couple of guests came down and were also shocked there was no one there and there is video camera footage of this whole thing on their security system. They told us that their water was boiling hot and there was no one there to help with the situation. I know this because right where we were in the lobby there were 3 different video cameras. The hotel manager stacked lies on lies and when we called his boss she laughed and giggled over the phone instead of helping. She said “He has never done this in the 10 years he’s worked here.” That doesn’t matter and we were in danger. I couldn’t stop crying and I was scared that something happened and not only scared for my safety and my family’s but for the staff’s because we had no idea where they were!!! And the whole time he was in a room getting it on with a woman. This hotel deserves less than 0 stars. The hotel manager was too busy being a nasty sicko. I’m pissed off, scared and wanted to spread the word. There are multiple witnesses to this including me, my Mom, a couple and another family that stepped up to help us because we didn’t know what to do. Do NOT come here unless you want to wait for an hour plus.. This is extremely unprofessional and Carla shouldn’t be giggling about this because this is NOT funny. I’m scared and they don’t care!!! Please listen to me, I beg of you. I’m trying to spread the word so that this doesn’t happen to...

A little difficult to find the entrance on a very wide Bascom Ave with their dimly lit, small, low sign, but this keeps the riff-raff away! Other than that, one of the most enchanting, perfectly maintained places we've ever stayed at. If you don't like an "old world" look, don't stay here, but if you like an opulent, 1890-1920 sort of feel, this is like going back into time and actually being there! Rooms are very spacious, double sinks in the "marbled" bathrooms, and lo and behold, an actual DOOR to the potty for privacy, something we've not found at all in the past few years in hotels. Great, easy-to-use shower. Air conditioning/heat very quiet and effective unlike the noisy alternatives in other hotels. Beds super comfortable. Two plush chairs (not the hard, wood or plastic kind found elsewhere) to sit/work in with a nice desk. TV in the armoire with big wooden doors for hiding them. Nice TV control even an 80-year-old can use without confusion. Breakfasts were great with plenty of options including a waffle machine, scrambled eggs, fruit, cereal and the BEST muffins we've ever had at a hotel (must come from a local bakery by the taste and texture). Coffee was excellent; robust and yet mellow. Only improvement we'd like is to have some "meat" like sausage or bacon each morning (they had fried potatoes for 6 days, and sausage for 1 day) to go with the excellent scrambled eggs. Nude statues (very tasteful) were a hoot as were the huge portraits all over the walls of the lobby and halls. I could go on and on... you simply must...
Read moreI am actually at the hotel as we speak. The hotel is OK. The carpets in the rooms are old and so faded, but not as old as the mattresses. Oh my! We are staying in the suite which just means the room is a little larger which is great when you have kids. Bathrooms are clean and nice if you like c spiders. The breakfast isn't that great. Eggs are powdered. The pancakes are not fresh and the coffee is horrible. Here is my huge compliant.... after a long day in Santa Cruz my son got sick in our hotel room. I am a single mom of two and had know one to help me, so as I went to call the front desk for towels the phone in the room didn't work. I scrambled and found my phone and called the front desk ( mean while I am trying to help my son who is throwing up and my daughter is in the tub). When the lady (I will find out her name) answers I tell her our phone doesn't work and she says that she doesn't know what to tell me... Argh! I then proceed to tell her that my son is sick and I need some towels in a hurry. Well, she tells me that she can't leave the front desk. I then tell her I can't leave my kids by them selves let alone my son who is throwing up. She tells me oh well. I guess you will figure something out. This lady never said I am sorry or anything. I an still so mad at how inconsiderate and cold hearted she was. This place doesn't go out of there way for there customers and I do not recommend it. Just horrible. She wasn't the only one that was...
